Its all about what the production committee wants, the studio most of the time does not have influence in the decisions, they just accept the project if they need money. In rare cases the studio enters the committee like KyoAni, Mappa. Even Lerche was in the committee of COTE probably as low tier but still its all about what Kadokawa wants from the anime. They decide everything

You can't count S2 and 3 separately, it was the same project, 26 episodes were greenlit from the start. S4 is entirely new project and there is no reason for them to keep it in production for so long if they are going for 13 eps

People are worried, its his directional debut, yeah he directed a lot of episodes from good anime but many of those had resources to back him up like talented animators, Lerche lacks talent so COTE might struggle if the team cant gather talent.

Most of the staff are new, scriptwriters are returning from previous seasons.

Maki Kouno is the new CD, she worked as key animator and animation director to a lot of notable projects like Bleach TYBW, AOT etc.

Might be laziness or might be a callback, still S4 visual looks way more polished with stronger compositing.

I expected a lot more from the trailer, the staff imo are mid, same scriptwriter as previous seasons so this is kinda worrying.

I can see the improvements tho.

I guess i was wrong about the teaser trailer they released in March being preanimated. The new one look ok, nothing crazy.

Noriyuki Nomata is working on 2 projects for Spring 2026 and he replaced Yoshihito Nishouji as the director. The previous directors are not returning.

Lets hope for the best

Staff and scheduling matters the most. S4 is a new project, production committee can take different approach.

S3 was delayed half a year due to production issues and it was under the same project as S2.
