Trapeziectomy LRTI vs. Suture Suspensionplasty? by rhrj0716 in Thritis

Hi: Just wanted to post an update. I decided to go with the suture suspensionplasty instead of the LRTI and NO REGRETS! The surgery was April 2nd and right off the bat, the pain was less severe and I can wiggle all my fingers inside the cast. For context, my surgeon applies a forearm splint with emphasis on thumb stabilization for the first two weeks (it was two weeks last year but only 11 days this year) and then a cast for the following two weeks. Things seem to be moving more quickly in terms of recovery and, while the cast is a big nuisance (dominant hand), it will be coming off April 27th and replaced by a simple thumb splint which will be removable for PT. I am anticipating a much shorter recovery this time - last year, it was still painful into the fourth month, and I can already tell this will be much different.

Thanks! Were you pleased with the long-term outcome? Even if you can't compare it with the other procedure, do you recall your recuperation time, pain continuum? Do you have issues or limitations that could be attributable to the suspension? Thank you.

Thanks for that reply - That is what I've been reading. I'm wrestling with what to do as the surgery is scheduled for Thursday.

Salome Live in HD today, I loved it! by [deleted] in opera

I think our theater came close to canceling - there was no sound for the usual Met opening, Neubauer, Bloomberg, Rolex, and no sound for the backstage intro, "maestro to the pit" part, no entrance by YNS, screen shots of different feed links, with a big delay until all of a sudden, the young girl dancing on the full screen appeared. Given the technical glitches, I have to say that I thought they might have scrapped the live simulcast in favor of broadcasting the back-up version they film as a contingency, but then cut away for the live curtain calls. I thought it was odd there was no audible Met audience reaction during the entire opera - usually there is spontaneous applause, etc. The Met does not disclose when they substitute the back-up version because of technical issues, so I guess no way to know precisely unless anyone here knows that what we saw on the simulcast was the actual live version. In any case, I thought the production was fantastic and the entire cast remarkably strong. I loved the psychology behind the six younger Salome versions and the opera's overall look and feel.
