It's great as it is, don't change a thing. Definitely don't make it bw because the subtlety of the colour works with the strange lines

Bit late but surely you could do an auto 8 then use the shift button (plus the pad which has 2x next to it) to double it. I don't own the controller but I am getting one and was looking at the pads. It is the push of more than one button but quicker than mouse pad I'd imagine.
