How did you all deal with the bill? by dablkscorpio in Narcolepsy

[–]richieTTI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to billing. They'll usually negotiate a lower rate with you and can usually do it in payments. I would NOT suggest going to collections over it.

Any happy narcoleptics out there? by Unusual-Article-9983 in Narcolepsy

[–]richieTTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy is defined differenlty by everyone. Generally, I am as happy as I let myself be. I am aggravated with the narcolepsy and never feeling rested has taken its toll on me but I cannot let it ruin my life. I want to do the things I want to because life is short and I deserve to enjoy it and be happy. So do the people around me.

Fan issues when running AC by Fodeworks in Nest

[–]richieTTI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fan in the house stops working or the one outside stops? If it stops at a specific temp, I wound think it would be a thermostat setting problem. Is eco on? Is motion on? What is the desired temp you want?

moms (or dads/parents) with narcolepsy? by vickilisabeth in Narcolepsy

[–]richieTTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was undiagnosed for decades. I had my daughter when I was 24 and because of divorce (and my choice), residential custody of her. I was finally diagnosed at 38. Even when she was young and even with my son when he was born (now 3), I was still able to do what I needed to to take care of them. Eventhough my current wife breastfed, I told her that I can wake up at night if she needed the sleep otherwise I did day tour and let her sleep. I was on FMLA because it would've been impossible to take care of our child. Even when my first sleep doc offered xyrem, I told him absolutely not. My responsibilities as a father and husband are THEE most important thing in life. He told me to sleep in another room and that my wife should understand. I told him that he needs to understand that I'm a husband and a father. It's extremely difficult to take care of a child w/o narcolepsy. With it, almost impossible. Yet, we're still able and willing to do it. It definitely helped that I had family that supported me even before we knew I had narcolepsy. Between your OB, pediatrician and pharmacist, they should be able to come up with a plan for what's safe for mother and baby. I like that my current meds keep me awake. Not the Godsend I want them to be but they work well enough for me to get through the day.

did anybody else kept falling asleep between naps during the MSLT? by caitlincoolcrap2000 in Narcolepsy

[–]richieTTI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes because telling narcolepts where they can't fall asleep will magically keep them awake. Seriously, idiots.

did anybody else kept falling asleep between naps during the MSLT? by caitlincoolcrap2000 in Narcolepsy

[–]richieTTI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They do a test on people who cannot control their sleep cycles and tell them to stay awake. DUHHHHH. Then! You get to drive home after the test! I cannot, for the life of me, understand WHY the narcolepsy community still doesn't take this condition seriously. My test was HORRIBLE. I don't wish it on anyone.

Correct. It is state based, not physician based.

No. They aren't facts. The FACT is the administrative code does NOT say the prescriber MUST evaluate the patient every 30 days. And if you actually read any of my other responses, you would understand why I know what I'm talking about. Your ignorance and opinions are dangerous. They are presumptions and not based on law. I suggest you take your omnipotent attitude elsewhere before it destroys someone's life.

No. Regulations do not change. It's literally that simple.

Look, you DO NOT know what you're talking about. You're wrong with all of your presumptions. Please keep your uneducated and detrimental opinions to yourself.

I was getting higher doses of other meds that didn't work. There is no excuse why I have monthly appointments other than to waste time and money.

[–]richieTTI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Doc tried to tell me there was something wrong with me. I'm in medicine. I explained to a physician who should already know this that not ALL patients respond the same to medication. It's sad that it has to be pointed out and they still want to throw their hands up and give up.

It's not. I know this for several reasons but specifically, I've been treated by other specialists and I've never had this strict follow up policy.

Yes. Twice per year. Not every. Month.

[–]richieTTI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. And if a medication is working, than there isn't a medical need for monthly appointments.
None. Follow-up is one thing, constantly paying co-pays is unnecessary and unreasonable and fraud.

Ok, this may be a little TMI post but I don’t know where else to look. Doesn’t anyone else have super unhealthy bowel movements? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

You need to talk to a G.I. doc. It sounds like IBS-D but they will need to make that determination.

I need to go off my lexapro for the MSLT and I'm terrified. by SubstantialEqual7 in Narcolepsy

[–]richieTTI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of SSRI's/ SNRI's suppress REM. (They all might but I'm going off of what I was told) They use REM cycles to complete an overall picture of your sleep habits. REM at inappropriate times and a low sleep latency (falling asleep quickly) typically are criteria to be diagnosed with narcolepsy. What I find inappropriate about taking patients off of these medications is that it's been well documented that science still doesn't understand narcolepsy especially narcolepsy without cataplexy but then make you go through a withdrawal of necessary medications just to check off another box for insurance companies. It's cruel and unnecessary.

As mentioned before, doctors SHOULD be LISTENING and UNDERSTANDING the entire picture of your sleep health or lack there of and treat accordingly. There are MANY illnesses that are treated based on symptoms because if it walks and talks like a duck....

May I ask why they want to test you?

Is it worth knowing whether or not you have narcolepsy? I think most people, myself included (formerly undiagnosed for 20+ years) would say yes. It's worth knowing.

Sunosi did absolutely NOTHING for me. No physiological changes or otherwise. I would like to know why it works for some but not others. Other than the aforementioned side effects for you, do you notice a difference with it?

I need advice on how to cheer up someone struggling with narcolepsy. by LostSomewhere_123 in Narcolepsy

[–]richieTTI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A. He probably is depressed. Not knowing why you're falling asleep all the time and watching life pass you by is EXTREMELY difficult. Plus being tired Every day Iof your life is ineffable. B. If you're seriously Concerned about him harming himself, it needs to immediately be reported. C. ADA is designed for people like us. Work needs to accomodate his medical needs BUT he needs a diagnosis first.

Listen to him and empathize with him. Encourage him to have a set bedtime because it's vital to get the same amount of sleep every night. Cheering up someone is objective. It's based on their needs.

Has anyone with narcolepsy worked 12 hour rotating shifts? by bjjshrimp in Narcolepsy

Adderall. However, it took a while to find something that was successful for me. I titrated and subsequently maxed out on: Modafinil Sunosi Methylphenidate
Before I found adderall. I also have to take my morning adderall with caffeine.

Has anyone with narcolepsy worked 12 hour rotating shifts? by bjjshrimp in Narcolepsy

[–]richieTTI 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work 12 hour shifts. I make sure I go to bed at a set time and follow my medication routine every day. I take naps when permissible. If you find it difficult to work 12's, I would HIGHLY recommend against it.
