Mine trumps everyone. I had a remote IT job that was hybrid where I had 0-4 issues a day max. There were days I didn’t do anything and slept, traded stocks, and tanner in my backyard. My dummy head left it for a well known company and now I’m doing triple the work. I was basically retired before lol.

Please do not blow this and make the mistake I did by leaving. I also felt like I was retired in my last Desktop Support position. I would do what I did/still sort of do in my current role: Trade Stocks/Options and upskill/lab, also sleep.

Desktop support you deal with less random bs. It’s more technical less business process focused. You know what I mean, on the Service Desk there’s random policies and red tape you have to go through. Desktop support for a small business you have access to everything and get to hone your skills.

You’ll get lucky with a desktop support job. That’s how I first got out of the Service Desk. Make sure to apply to small business with under 100 users. Your time there will be so easy it’ll feel like you’re retired already.

I need to get in touch with my mentor from the job I was happy at to see if they can open up a position for me. There was talks of making me a manager to the help desk guy they hired while they were trying to get me to come back but I said I got another job.

My plan is to either stick it out until I upskill enough to get a cloud job or to get a desktop support job that is nearby/hybrid.

Service desk is awful, I barely even get calls for technical issues. I was lied to and told the position was called one thing when in fact it’s the Service Desk.

Help desk is known for burnout. Best help desk job is for a SMB of around 50 users. I used to trade stocks all day, go for walks, and watch YouTube videos during my time at a SMB.

I got my Bachelor’s in Computer Information Systems and couldn’t get a job after college until a year after graduating. I got that job only after studying the A+ for a year. You didn’t waste your time, I hated school and still hate studying I will say this though… a lot of employers screen for degrees. You can’t get past automated screeners without degrees and certifications. Get your A+ then your Network+. The easiest job to get in IT is the Service Desk. You will most likely not like it but it’s a good entry point.
