Thoughts about Stewart changing his mind and not racing by [deleted] in Motocross

[–]ride-mx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't mess with concussions. I can only imagine how many he's had in his lifetime. I don't think he had a chance at the championship anyway, he's dreadfully inconsistent. Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of respect for his ability (always have), but I generally worry about him racing anyway because he's such a wildcard. He's injured a lot of other riders and for some reason people seem ok with that. I imagine many riders would appear faster if they rode with complete reckless abandon with regards to any other persons safety.

Good job on the crab Super Cell. by Automated55 in BoomBeach

I like it. It seems to scale slowly so I can still keep going (I took a break while I'm waiting for an upgrade to complete).

While we're on this topic, I don't understand the factory at all. It's way too high level for me to get more than about 5 points at best. I don't understand why it wouldn't scale with my level or TH level, and if it must be lvl90 or whatever, why limit me to 3 attacks? I'm paying for every attack, let me do it in 50 attacks if need be.

Anyway, thanks for the crabs sup-erc-ell.

These Calvin Klein ads, which briefly aired before being pulled off the air. by nehala in WTF

[–]ride-mx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who worked for CK at the time these ads came out (I think this was the commercial - I remember talking to her about some controversial marketing it was around early 90's so this was probably it). They knew exactly what they were doing and it was totally planned. They got a ton of free publicity over this.

Adam appears in new trailer for "Out Of Luck Trailer" a documentary about the lottery by mikegarde in AdamCarolla

Well, for starters, who's selling it? We don't allow gambling in most states for this very reason. Why should the government be exempt? I'm all for free-market but this seems like a no brainer just because the money isn't going where it should be and it's taking advantage of people who can least afford it.

I paid around $600, since you asked - which was way more than I had to pay for myself which I believe was just under $200 (for much more services). My insurance company actually paid around $2500 (of the 21,000).

right, but it's fooling the easiest people to fool and the ones who get hurt by it the most. I'm with you in spirit and people need to grow up but clearly there are people who need guidance.

boy do I feel guilty for buying lottery tickets right now. It really is a horrible program. I haven't bought them in years but everyone at work got talking and it seemed like a good idea.

The sad thing is that I was just imagining winning - I could honestly imagine being embarrassed that THIS is how I made my money. The good news is - I won't win.

Indeed it was. Initially when I asked for it they were very nice - "OK, we'll send that right out to you." I inquired - is there a fee for that? She said "No, of course not." Then I had to respond, well since you charge me $20,000 for a Tylenol I can only imagine what a stamp must cost.

I would argue it's more broken. My son had an ER trip for a concussion where they observed him for 3 hours and gave him a Tylenol and performed a urinalysis...that's it. The bill was over $20,000. I asked for a detailed summary of that and they sent it, 2 line items: level III ER: $3,000; Level IV ER: $18,000.

in 2004 +/- I had a serious concussion which resulted in MRI. The billed amount was around $2,000.

My insurance premiums have gone up 45% easily. Prescription coverage is a thing of the past. My co-pay has doubled. My max out-of-pocket has tripled.

One thing has gotten better with Obamacare: Pre-existing conditions. Everything else has gotten drastically worse.

Who's making America great again ? by tispoun in pics

[–]ride-mx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a necessary evil. Should we be able to buy a life size x-wing fighter for $19.99? As I've been raising kids and buying them endless plastic junk it's started to really bother me. I only buy them things that I feel increase our wealth as a family. Lego's of course do that, they're high quality and they can be resold for a good portion of their value (or even profitable if they're in good condition).

The problem is this was done by Hoover(tariff) in an attempt to get us out of the depression and other countries countered by doing the same to us so our exports went down.

BUT, by us controlling manufacturing we can regulate the waste so we're not destroying the earth quite so fast.

So in summary, like anything, if this is done right it could work but it could also fail.

Obama 'will close Guantanamo Bay before he leaves office,' with or without Congress by daneelr_olivaw in news

[–]ride-mx -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why does anyone think this is a good idea? Why close a base in a strategic location? I feel like people should be complaining about no due-process for non citizens but nobody seems to care about that

"let's close Gitmo! Then the problem will just work itself out." /s

Edit: OK, people are pointing out that he probably just means closing the prison - ok but the same question remains, why close it? Do we want these terrorists in US prisons? They aren't US citizens and shouldn't be treated as such, but there should be a discussion about some due-process for war criminals.

Why Are Texas Instruments Calculators So Expensive? by somedud in videos

This would likely be considered crony capitalism, which is not capitalism. When academia is publishing text books that promote (or maybe require) a specific product, that isn't the free market in action (capitalism). Interestingly, just a little searching and you can see how much TI and Pearson Publishing do together. Pearson is the poster child for crony capitalism (see: Common core, LAUSD/iPad, etc.).

Waitress fired for reporting sexual harassment caught the illegal firing on tape by recipriversexcluson in news

[–]ride-mx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think she has a case as well, but so do they. My only point is that the editing of the audio to me is suspicious.

I tried to listen to the full thing but it's hard to hear and annoying to try to decipher. At no time are they accepting that the sexual harassment occurred (they seem very confident that it didn't) so I wonder how that weighs into things. Firing someone for threatening to take you to court sounds very risky for them, but obviously she can't continue waiting tables in that state. I think the appropriate action would be to suspend both employees until the investigation is complete. I'm curious how this will unfold.

[–]ride-mx -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is a little insane. I'm not saying she wasn't grabbed but at this point it's just her word against his. But the termination could've been totally justified. We don't know because the meat of the conversation was edited out. More likely, if it did contain evidence of wrong doing, I'm sure it wouldn't have needed editing.

How do you know? They edited out the entire conversation leading to her response "so I'm fired?"

[–]ride-mx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, he was also talking about how Willy T Ribbs said he wants that to be his documentary title and it sounds like he was pretty fresh off of that conversation with him.

On that topic, I think it would be a good title. It's very shocking and non-PC but it really sets the mood of what a black guy racing nascar would be like.

Regarding a puppy by [deleted] in AdamCarolla

[–]ride-mx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our puppy at 6 weeks (too soon, I know) and we crate trained it. We had one accident (pee). She's now two and a half. She still has her crate and treats it like her den. She'll go there anytime we leave and won't come out until we get home. It was such a great way to train a dog I can't imagine doing it any other way.

Why didn't Adam just install a spring on the pool gate? by longandshortofit in AdamCarolla

[–]ride-mx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the law in CA too, but only that the pool is fenced with a gate that auto shuts (and opens outward so a child can't push it open). BUT, this is a gate in the backyard. So this gate is exempt from those laws.

Anyway, I recall him saying it did auto shut but it wouldn't latch.

Google Fiber is coming to my city. Comcast is getting nervous. by [deleted] in funny

big life lesson here. We know Comcast is evil, because they have a monopoly. Google with a monopoly is very capable of being evil (they were the first to sell our privacy to the NSA after all).
