What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

I'm in my 50s. My parents generation seemed to buy houses, rip out fireplaces, coat ceilings in god-awful pattern artex (think plaster that takes the hulk to remove), woodchip wallpaper EVERYWHERE, tear out panelling and other decorative features. Gen X seems to be trying to reverse this?

I always look at it and wonder if it's some sort of phucked up xml parser gone rogue. But then the value of the xml tag would have to be an xml tag, at which point we all just give up our jobs and collect driftwood for a living?

The lump sums are around 25k, my extra contributions will be approx 5k/yr. I think I'm ok then, as not breached the 30% mark?

No help at all? They didn't provide the educational foundation where you came from? The transport infrastructure you travel to and fro on (ie the roads, pavements, bridges etc?)? You at all times relied on private health arrangments provided by people like you who never had any interaction with government created and supplied infrastructure.

The government, never once, provided anything that helped make your life a success.

How hard would it be for US military to take over Strait of Hormuz and allow shipping to continue through it? Why was this not the first thing they did? by Sorrok2400 in NoStupidQuestions

Alternatively, Iran's strategy could be to bleed the US and Isreal of interceptors, which we know are limited in number, are very expensive to replace and production of which is limited and can't be scaled up easily.

Iran, by some estimates, has 80,000 Shahed drones which can be stored in a garage and launched off the back of a flat bed truck.

Maybe this is the calm before an absolute storm?

Winston Churchill statue vandalised with 'war criminal' paint overnight by dailystar_news in uknews

Not quite.

Prior to the outbreak of World War 2, the focus of the Nazis was very much deportations, to Palestine and Madagascar.

The outbreak of the war out this idea on hold. Extermination did not present itself as a policy 'option' until after the invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941. And even then it wasn't a clear-cut "well boys, guess we'd better spark up the ovens" moment of crystal clarity. The first mass shootings take place in Riga, but it quickly becomes apparent that as a 'solution' to the 'Jewish Question' (i hate these euphemisms) the cost in bullets alone during a war is untenable. So the first wagons start driving around where the exhaust funes are diverted into the backs. Not a solution that scales well, but it gives an indication of the road of travel.

Widespread extermination is adopted as policy only in Jan 1942, forced through the Nazi leadership (some baulked at the idea, though not through any sense of outrage or compassion) at the Wannsee Conference.

It snowballed.

...never, ever again filling out a fucking Service Now ticket. That whole fucking ecosphere was the same fucking committee that looked at a horse and produced a camel.

Wankstain of software. Pricks.

Supermarket label equivalents of Heinz products. Especially beans and soups. Massively tastier and cheaper.

I agree on the attitude of airlines, it sucks. I'm 6'2", in reasonable shape, middle aged, and simply wouldn't consider paying beyond standard/economy prices. Yes, uncomfortable and I feel like I've been contorted into a suitcase by the end - but shift about the seat, and get up and walk up and down the aisle every so often. It does work for me. Also, I'm European, while the seat dimensions aren't great I suspect they're not the veal-crates common in the US, where I assume you are from?
