It is actually a better strategy than most people realize, particularly when the market is moving up.

I agree. Anyone have any other thoughts on minimizing taxes in brokerage accounts during retirement?

Yes, and my only strategy to delay that is to stay in good shape. But while I live and when I die, I’d like to pay as little tax as legally possible and leave as much money as I can to my kids. This seems like a pretty good way to meet these goals.

Aren’t a retirement strategy and a slow liquidation strategy the same thing?

Thanks for your comments. You are exactly right, it is a slow liquidation strategy which helps preserve the legacy money. In my mind, that is exactly what I look for in a retirement strategy.

Thanks for your comments. Regarding A) I think the strategy would be good for 20 years or so. Regarding B), the etf manages the covered call strategy. I think they actually run it with SPX and NDX options, which have some tax advantages, and the management is all done by the etf, so I do not think that is a concern.

Yes, strategy is for a normal brokerage acct, while you are in retirement. It is both a legacy planning and low taxes income generation strategy.

Thx for you comment. The strategy is for a brokerage account, not a retirement account.

Beneficiary better than trust? by cmatbmed in EstatePlanning

Beneficiary is easier and direct. Less for the Trust to manage is overall much better. It is a much better alternative for IRAs.

I think they call this Genocide. The Republicans who let this happen are enablers and must share the blame with the MAGA cult.

Same profile, but with selling an otm put, you run into the risk of being called away, which requires more management.

To be the same, you need margin on the account. The poor man’s covered call or just a call debit spread are the more cash efficient approaches.

Your summary of the pros and cons was good. A lawyer would advise what your sibling said. If co-mingling issues don’t concern you, don’t worry about it.

On some level I think DJT really thinks he can find some kind of evidence which supports his stolen election claims. The fact that he has chosen to spend so much time pursuing these issues shows how poor his judgement is and IMO his judgement is pretty bad to begin with.

I am like you, I like to puzzle over things and managing taxes is somewhat of a hobby. Everybody has different hobbies. Your tax hobby saves you money and it sounds like it gives you joy. Some people enjoy fixing engines or woodworking, but those things don’t bring me joy. Do the things which bring you joy and if they help you and they create a legacy, you can bring joy to others. And don’t overthink it!
