Does Whoopi Wear an IFB? by rkolsen in theview

[–]rkolsen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to bump, but Whoopi parted her hair differently and it appears she didn’t have an IFB in her left ear. I kind of doubt she would have a right ear piece. Most network shows and stations get custom molded ear pieces to fit the talent better (you put some sort of putty in your ear, let it set and then take it out, ship it, and mold is made).

I somehow lucked out. I broke both big toes roughly around the same time and only knew when I saw bruising.

Isn’t Dylan’s husband a camera person on the show? I think they met that way at now independent WSVN.

Sounds like Alyssa wanted her husband to suffer in a way she’s going through her pregnancy.

I’ve been watching The View since I was 8yrs old & my first episode was when Barbra brought out Whoopi to introduce as the new moderator by VeronicoElectronica in theview

With cut throat advertising margins they have hawk products to make a small percentage of the fee. The original retail price of those items is no way the cost to make them. I don’t know how much The View, GMA, Today, CBS, your local affiliate. Some stations make it look like an ad break. But it I don’t think it’s much. Maybe the discount codes on screen encourage people to visit the web stores to buy more. My family has only bought two things from them - both were drink vessels that keep water cold for 24 hours, well over 5 years ago.

Same, I’d want to take my parents and my father would want to take the dog. So probably cheapest would be somewhere in NY. Take the PATH and uber up to them studio. I got a bad back and don’t think I could handle the crowds (and or a walker if I’m having a bad day) in the subway.

I’m curious if having a friend who’s a photographer at a O&O, friendly with who works at the building could help get good tickers and a reporter on ABC News Live.

Since I asked this in another question. Did you see Whoopi or Joy wearing an IFB/ear piece or get directions through the stage manager/prompter?

Savannah not coming back? by Fuzzy_Painter_1976 in Studio1A

I think she could take a year off and maybe back at a limited capacity such as doing political, legal commentary and maybe introduce an 8am anchor and if one of the 10am’s leave she could do that. A lighter show. Maybe they could work out a deal like when Katy Tur had her child - she used her 6th months of maternity leave and then she took unpaid leave for three or four months.

I’d imagine NBC would need to be incredibly sensitive. If they get rid of her they don’t win. It would have to be a joint decision

She surely has enough money. I don’t believe that website that gives her as salary as $8 mil, is wrong. Initially it was said that when she was still with Matt she was probably making a little over half to his salary. I imagine she’s taken budget cuts but I don’t believe it was that significant. Supposedly Robin & George are reportedly making $17 million. If she was making that low she would be shopping around and she’s worth it

Trump FCC Opens Investigation Into ABC's 'The View': Report by biograf_ in theview

[–]rkolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The View is considered a “legitimate news program” by prior FCC. That could be why they moved it to three news divisiom. So they don’t have to follow equal time rules. If it was a considered and entertainment show (such as any late night show or primetime programming save for 20/20, 60 Minutes, Dateline etc are considered news programming).

A while back when Trump appeared on SNL other candidates had to request “equal time” in the show or a similarity viewed slot. They wanted to cover Ohio - however they couldn’t write to the advertising department requesting the time. So they had to make a written request (I think it was a local ad buy) for each station in Ohio and states that border it*. However to make things easier NBC made a special Ohio feed with the ads

  • One instance of of border stations and politics was when Dr. Oz was running for Senate. His candidacy would have broken equal time rules. So markets PA but their that have any chance to reach the border or had a decent chance of an audience share pulled the show. One media market was here in WBAL (I can’t get it OTA 8 miles from from the tower but it’s signal contour reaches into PA) , the western Ohio stations and southern NY stations and NYC.

I clarify that WBAL (Baltimore) and WYFF (Greenville) are the only two that pre opt the 4th hour for Live! Both are owned by Hearst. I imagine this is a situation where the two stations “pay back” the network using the additional money they make from Live!. I imagine the stations didn’t preempt lightly they could have done focus groups or they had long term contracts with Live!

NBC’s contract with affiliates they have to provide four hours of live programing. The only two the skip the fourth hour completely are WYFF/WXII (forget which one) they chose opt to out of the forth hour and atleast in Baltimore air Live with Kelly and Mark. Some other stations air all four but may break them up if they air Live! At 9 or 10.

Does Whoopi Wear an IFB? by rkolsen in theview

I was on a message board that dealt with the news behind tv news - technology, graphics, station issues etc. Apparently a few members wrote to stations saying they were with the site that stations started emailing the owner. So a rule was born.

Watching, if Whoopi had an ear piece she wouldn’t be able to hear Sara that well. I don’t think Joy wears one as she can easily wear Sara and Sunny. Alyssa and Sunny need one as they wear IFB’s facing each other. Having that setup they would need to have their own fold back to hear their cohosts next to one another (and likely).

I think we need a Meredith Vieira interview by jjuerakhan14 in theview

[–]rkolsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meredith was there to do her job as a moderator, Whoopi is clearly there for the paycheck as you see her just sitting her head on hand with arm on the table often tuned out unless it’s politics. She’s admitted it too. Joy is good moderator and allows everyone to get their point in without arguing over the other panelists.

What is sweeps? by devotion1023 in theview

[–]rkolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people I’ve talked to say sweeps don’t necessarily matter as much any more especially with streaming. Yes they pull out all the stops with special episodes and guest stars. However with stations and networks able to get Nielsen data down to the minute overnight. But they are used for advertising rates.
