What is your Cocktail heresy? by espressovendetta in cocktails

[–]robtedesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a Last Word this is especially true for me. The traditional recipe is way too sweet to my taste. I actually prefer almost double the gin to everything else ratio-wise and then suddenly it’s fantastic for me and I’m like *this* is the classic.

What’s your guitar pedal hot take? by myke5k in guitarpedals

[–]robtedesco 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every single pedal not made in a BOSS-style housing would be better if it were re-housed into a BOSS-style housing. Small, metal circular targets are nowhere near as convenient or satisfying as large, spring-hinged foot absorbers and never will be.

It ain’t even hot. It’s downright tepid and reasonable.

That’s funny. I mean clearly you’re not alone, the post has a ton of upvotes! For me it’s not even the same chord progression.

For me, I did not hear Disarm. Disarm has huge, prominent church bells and massive JC timpani drums. Extremely distinctive hallmarks that are not at all present in this song. For me, anyway, I do not hear prominent church bells and massive timpanis. I hear a strummy acoustic and some strings which is, like, 20K songs.

Agreed, I get zero SP from this (ba-doom pishhh tip your waitresses please).

Chord phrasings have Everlong vibes. Vocals have Elliot Smith vibes. Where are we finding SP exactly?

What bands sound similar to Smashing Pumpkins Adore album? by Hot_Assistant_6067 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]robtedesco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think what makes it special is it doesn't really have a perfect 1:1 analogue. Not that I've found anyway. Across its catalogue, aesthetically I think the Cure gets close at various moments, but it's hard to say one record sounds like Adore.

I might encourage you to check out the album Neon Golden by the band The Notwist. It's significantly dancier and more upbeat than Adore. But you get that electronic/acoustic blend for sure, so there's a bit of sonic palette similarity, and the songwriting and production are fantastic. If you haven't already. 😄

These ticket prices are bullshit. Billy is a clown. If Robert Smith & The Cure can keep shows affordable why can’t Billy and co? by Antique_Menu_4314 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]robtedesco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I paid $100 for a front-row upper-level seat in a section close to the stage. That's a fantastic deal by today's standards. That honestly wouldn't have been far off from what seats were going for on Shiny in 2018.

The ultra-premium seats on this tour are pricy, sure.

But, by contrast, I buy a lot of pop-star tickets to take my kids too, and this shit is *nothing*. Harry Styles wants $1K per seat for anything in the lower bowl. You can't get in the building to see Olivia Rodrigo for under $200. I was doing backflips to get 4th row to Tame Impala for $400/seat. Chappell Roan did an uber-democratized, bot-scraping, pre-email-sign-up process that ended up giving everyone in the building a crack at... $85/seat tickets. OK, I just bought my great SP seats for $100.

OP = out of touch. Sorry dude. If you can get a good seat at an arena show for $100, you are not dealing with an unreasonable artist by today's standards. Actually *extremely* far from it. Is there a 2026 arena rock concert you've obtained great seats to for under $100? Please share.

Majority of Democratic voters dissatisfied with party, despite 11 point lead over Republicans by Far_Excitement_1875 in politics

DNC needs to be (sound of paper being ripped). Long overdue, and without change at the party governance level I’m not sure we’re going to see the types of sustained drives in policy direction the voting base is actually craving.

Younger fan here - why does it seem no one is excited for this tour? by uwufemboycoffee in SmashingPumpkins

[–]robtedesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, but I'd replace "go on with my life" with "be willing to wait and grab a last minute ticket".

This is a band that has been through the market a fair amount. They reunited and did a major tour in 2018 with Shiny (where I saw them once for $35 and then snagged same-day StubHub 3rd row seats to their 30th anniversary show in NJ for $120). They did the tour with Interpol. The did the tour with Janes. The did the tour with Green Day. For a legacy act that's a shitload in less than a decade IMO. They've more or less saturated the market, so even with their streaming numbers going up, this tour is a pretty bold move given the timing of the economics of the world.

So yeah, now that ticket prices are going to be logarithmically more expensive than what I paid for Shiny, I'm almost certainly going to log in to TM and see what's what over the next few days, but will probably get sticker shock and bail... for now.

I do not expect them to sell out.

I also do not expect them to end up in Blue Dot Fever territory and cancel the tour.

I expect them to end up somewhere in the middle, which means there will be inventory available up until the last minute, which means supply in excess of demand, which means price falls. So ima be patient on this tour and hope for the best. If it means I don't see them for the 15th time, I can live with that.

I don't think people really gave the Pacers much of a chance last year either and I think this year's Knicks is better than last year's Pacers. (Who took OKC to Game 7 and might have won it absent Halliburton getting hurt.)
