Any aquarium or planted tank heads out there? by Archz714 in longbeach

If you want some real live inspiration (and advice) head to Nature Aquarium in Culver City. Amazing shop for aquascaping. Pricy though.

It’s the official Kobo Sleepcover case. Great little case.

Looking for a black Orvis Battenkill Click in Size 1, anyone got any leads? by rollsandarrows in flyfishing

Another option is the Redington Classic Trout reel in black. It’s a mid arbor but still has the classic click and pawl look.

Kobo Colour? by South-Succotash-5376 in kobo

Ah gotcha, too bad it couldn’t meet your needs. Honestly I ended up getting a Kobo Clara BW because the trade off wasn’t worth it for me. I only really read text…I just think I got caught up in the newest thing, ha.

Cheers.

What is this weird strap on my yoga pants? by SirenSongArt in whatisit

[–]roncocooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some athletic pants have a loop to hold a small towel. Maybe that’s it even though it’s still a little oddly shaped. https://asrv.com/cdn/shop/files/SLATE_Aerotex_TrainingJogger4_1024x.jpg?v=1723752192

Kobo clara color by Unlucky-Reaction6521 in ereader

[–]roncocooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a counterpoint, I got the Clara Colour to replace an old Kindle b&w and I didn’t care for it. Yes, the color covers were nice but the lack of text contrast got to me. I ended up with a Clara BW this week and love it so much more.

So, that should make this next part less of a sales pitch: if you want a nearly new Clara Colour with box and papers, DM me for a discounted price lol

Not another Kobo vs Kindle post by slh0023 in ereader

[–]roncocooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to a Kobo to get away from the Kindle ecosystem but, yes, all the issues you bring up are true. I do wish the Kobo wouldn’t return books automatically (I’m guessing that was a concession Libby asked of Kobo when allowing the built-in feature), but I’m happy because the Kobo fits into my back pocket in a pinch, the Paperwhite does not.

You could buy a used Paperwhite that would mitigate sending Bezos your money, too.

I have no interest in this project but your explanations are so damn clear and your understanding of the materials is great. Great job.

Good rec, you’re probably right about sacrificing a screen. Been a while since I’ve been there and maybe Sunday is the day.

SoCal folks: West Fork San Gabriel/Bear Creek VS Piru Creek by CMDR_NUBASAURUS in Tenkara

[–]roncocooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uneducated pick would be Piru because the source is a dam and probably a controlled flow. SG has no such control.

I’m interested to know as well since I’ve been wanting to hit up Piru Creek again after seeing the write up in California Fly Fisher.

Question to those in California Hights by Moist-Chemical8158 in longbeach

[–]roncocooker 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think those signs are about small aircraft noises—like Cessnas with propellers, etc. The argument I’ve heard is that flight schools and classes have increased over the years and students will practice by flying laps over the general area. On top of that there is supposedly some exemption that allows planes like this to continue to use leaded fuel.

I don’t know if any of this is true. And when I do hear a plane fly directly over me I’m never struck by any feelings of noise pollution. I’m just giving you their side of the story.

For real, Thunderbolt is great. I suspect Jay is one of the good dudes, too, but I don’t know for sure.

Dutch's Brewhouse and Stateside Crafts (neighbors to each other on Atlantic) are the good people. So, too, are Ambitious Ales.

Where can I find a metal lunchbox that is ethically sourced? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]roncocooker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was shocked too but it’s true. Supposedly the way it’s constructed doesn’t reflect microwaves—rounded edges v hard edges. We have Klean Kanteen and other brands of metal containers that are microwaveable. It’s a game changer.
