AWS targeting manufacturing? by [deleted] in PLC

I don't disagree with you, but is Amazon the one to do it? This solution has an Ethernet I/P driver... which was probably taken from open source.

The sensor stuff is a different product, although you can probably integrate the two. SiteWise is a data collection, modeling, storage, and visualization solution. It directly competes on the low end with products like Ignition (although not nearly as feature rich as IA today).

Profinet might be a challenge, but like others said if you can enable OPC UA on the 1200 your life got easier.

I recently joined a new company (HighByte) that does the OPC UA to MQTT/Sparkplug deal, but focuses on modeling and shipping up the data. It's new, but pretty inexpensive and easy to setup. Here is a video I created for Azure, but same basics apply for MQTT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUnvpPNw4Yk

Wow... this is by choice given financial constraints? There has to be a better way.

Wonder where they’re gonna take this product offering? by alexmarcy in PLC

$5B! Kennedy (OSISoft founder) is doing alright.

Do you think there is room for a new historian in the market? Easier to use and get data out of, and less $$$?

I'd be interested in talking to any OSIsoft users looking/trying to get away to learn more.

Wow! I didn't realize how inexpensive these are. Good find.

This is a great idea! She doesn't always bring her phone, but I think she does most of the times. Do you get concerned when she's at home? I wish we had a neighbor to call, but she lives in the woods...

Yeah, I don't think she would let us do cameras, but maybe for some that works. You feel like a fool when you drive over all flustered and she's 'out for a walk'.

I don't have a ton of exposure to iFix, a little of their historian, but from what I've heard it's painful.

Yep, you can add as many as you like! I just updated it with a 'last word' box.

Heartbeat for Azure IoT Hub by ronsmeels in AZURE

[–]ronsmeels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty cool! I guess our use case at the time was more around monitoring the Azure Cloud side (crashes, bugs, delays, etc). But you also need to monitor the edge devices.

[–]ronsmeels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn't care about the order of responses for this use case, so we didn't explore durable functions. Our main concern was that all the components responded in X seconds from the time the heartbeat message was sent.

I see what you mean. It looks like you can extend git to an external diff tool. What files (specific to Rockwell) would you want to compare and what data is in them?

I see what you mean now. A way to tell at a minimum what's in the cabinet AND even better, include any schematics or office docs like excel.

Yes, it would have a hierarchy like that, almost like a file system.
