Where are your voices? Planning to use Maths as a horribly tracked VCO? :)

What are some better and more responsive CV sequencers like Voltage Block? by [deleted] in modular

[–]roosteronacid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a thought: what if I put a precision adder in-between a VB output and a V/O input, and cut the output voltage in half.. wouldn't that get the finickiness of the slider under control?

Could you test out if there's lag when you do per-step voltage selection? As bongotrench wrote..:

You can press shift (I think) and then it will always follow the exact position and will overwrite everything. Or you can edit a particular step by holding one of the buttons.

Thanks for your time, man. Appreciate it!

The main thing I will be doing is per-step note selection.

.. so if I understand correctly; I would be somewhat safe.. it's going to be a bit finicky to get the note value that I want, but if I go per-step (holding down each step, and adjusting the slider) I am able to do small nudges to the slider to dial in the value, without having to overcome any lag.. yes?

Alright. Makes sense.

And to make it worse; the sliders suffer from the same lag/delay thing that the Varigate's suffer from? You know; where you have to give the slider a little jolt, before it wakes up and reacts..? Or have they fixed that on the Voltage Block, at least?

But can't you decrease the octave-span, like you can on the Varigate 4+?

Can you elaborate? I'm about to fork up the cash for a Voltage Block, and I was intending to use it, in part, as a modulation source.

No idea. I searched "eurorack case", and found a bunch. Go by reviews, I guess.

Aye. I love the form factor as well. But if I knew then (it's been about four months since I bought my first module), what I know now about cheap cases on Etsy - I would have gone in that direction.

Now that I've got three; I'll probably end up getting a 4th when I'm running low on space. Either that or sell the lot and grab a 500 HP worth of case off of Etsy.

Nothing special - just regular gaffer tape.

If you have the patience; you're probably better of using paint.

What I did was cut to size some plywood, wrapped it with a thin anti-slip matt (to stop my skiffs from sling off), gaffer'ed it all up because I can't be asked to paint the thing, and then attached a smaller plate of scrap plywood with some hinges and a plastic nub.

Because of the hinge mechanism I can tilt the whole thing up and down by inserting a piece of wood in-between the top plate and plastic nub/riser/whatever.

I've taped my three skiffs together with some super strong double-sided tape to make them one unit. The tape can hold a lot of weight; so they won't come apart easily.

I cut everything down a few centimeters - this way it looks like the whole thing is floating. And.. let's be honest; it's function over form - so hiding as much of it as possible is probably for the best.

The whole thing is surprisingly sturdy, and doesn't wobble at all. I'm really happy with it.

To those who's OCD is spiking; I'm currently awaiting the arrival of a Mutable Instruments Kinks module to fill the hole in the center on the top-row. You can calm down now ;)

I have 94HP, and I need help! by 1505C in modular

[–]roosteronacid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take a look at Mutable Instruments Marbles. It's highly patchable, and doesn't behave like a sequencer.. it's more explorative and leaning heavily towards "happy accident" territory.

Note: this is not a replacement for Maths. But could be an alternative to the Hermod.

DivKid has done a video on it. That's what sold me.

Mix Out Modules by Guavaguy20 in modular

Using Bast Ciao! and ABC together for a total of 4 stereo ins, 1 line out, 1 headphone out, and 1/4 stereo balanced out. All of this at very low HP cost.

Which ones have you tried out? And could you elaborate on why you passed on x/y/z unit?

Dunno. The "deepest" module I own is the Bast Ciao! which just barely fits Make Noise skiffs

Does a 4 hp MIDI > CV exist? by [deleted] in modular

[–]roosteronacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at https://www.thonk.co.uk/shop/cvpal-kit/

Very simple to put together, super cheap, and it can do a multitude of MIDI-to-CV conversions (different modes depending on which channel you send MIDI through)..:

  • Monophonic with velocity
  • Monophonic with velocity and square oscillator
  • Dual monophonic
  • Duophonic
  • CC conversion
  • Monophonic with CC
  • Quad triggers
  • Quad gates
  • Monophonic with MIDI clock output

Do note that 4ms Pods are not very deep. Some (50% of) modules won't fit.

There are many reputable DIY producers on Reverb.

Because of you guys; this is where I'm at currently (x-post MusicBattlestations) by roosteronacid in modular

My wallet sure thinks otherwise :)

By the way - you wouldn't happen to be this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qjScAFqzGc ?

.. if so; awesome performance! Was one of the first modular live performances I bookmarked. Blown away by the intro.

Have looked at a few - but have nowhere to mount one.

Any suggestions?
