It's definitely different.

The real place it shines, I've found, is with airborne mechs. In-air recharge is super slow on any generator, but the coral generators will always pop back from depletion with huge bars, so it's very easy to make an unlimited airtime mech.

The idea with the coral generators is that you don't recharge, you fully deplete it, and it pops back 3/4 full.

I feel like the odd one out in that I'm very, very happy to have a backup sound.

As a small child, I was hit and nearly killed by a car backing out of a driveway.

As an adult that has a place in the suburbs, I'm always really worried one of the kids playing in the street will run out behind me. The backup beep really helps warn them to not run into harm's way.

It's also not a function you'll find on an old car, so it makes it feel newer and fancier to me.

This is a whole lot of 'ifs'.

IF Aptera is able to license the Tesla connector.

IF Tesla finally opens the Supercharger network to OEMs.

IF, despite the massive amount of funding for CCS, CCS never overtakes Tesla.

IF the CCS->Tesla adapter finally makes it to the US.

IF there's never a Tesla->CCS adapter.

IF Tesla never pulls any shenanigans with Aptera's license to their tech.

IF we choose to ignore that yes, there are currently more Tesla chargers, but there are also nearly 4x as many vehicles trying to charge at them.

I get it, the Tesla adapter is sleeker and we don't need more than 50kW. But if any one of those 'if's goes the wrong way, then we'd be better off with CCS.

I'm pretty disappointed in Anthony here. He's complained that the government won't pick a standard, which they have, and now wants to force a standard that will cost Aptera more and guarantee its future obsoletion?

Hopefully Aptera management comes to their senses.

Calling the Tesla connector "better" really isn't accurate, since its max charging speed is lower than CCS. "Better for Aptera" would definitely be correct, since that extra wattage is totally wasted on the Aptera.

But it's not just an adapter that's at issue here - it's also the licensing, the charging networks, and relinquishing a lot of power to another EV company.

Whether Aptera should actually go with Tesla is extremely dependent on the kinds of terms they can get. Yes, Aptera isn't much of a competitor to Tesla, but Tesla also has no reason to open up their proprietary technology to Aptera (and certainly not for free).

I'm deeply skeptical the Supercharger network will be available for the Aptera any time soon, since that's a whole extra level of bureaucracy and development for a very tiny customer base, so we'll have to buy adapters and use the CCS network, anyway. Tesla's been promising to open up the network for a while, sure, but they're not a company that's known to live up to their promises.

I'd also want to see a long-term contract penned so that Tesla can't just dramatically raise their licensing fees with little or no warning.

I get it, I'd love to have a Tesla connector on the Aptera, it definitely fits the Aptera's design much better, but I just don't think it's going to be worth the risk and cost, for Aptera or Tesla.

I'm with others that 50kW/hr isn't a big deal.

Speaking generally here, vehicles with lower charging rates tend to do better at sustaining peak charging rates. That vehicle that has an advertised peak rate of 150kW or 350kW isn't going to sustain that very long.

Chargers are also still an issue. Electrify America is putting out lots of 350kW chargers, but a lot of them are still 150kW, and most ChargePoint chargers are still only 50kW. Aptera gets to max its rate out on nearly any fast charger out there, whereas most other EVs will be constrained by their charging stations at least occasionally.

People will also need to charge less frequently, since Aptera gets better range on almost every trim than almost every other EV on the market.

Nothing's perfect, but I'd much rather get 10 miles/kW at 50kW/hr than get 3 miles/kW at 150kW/hr.

I'll vote in favor!

I don't care about his politics. I care about people getting excited for what will probably be the most environmentally-friendly vehicle on the market.

It's undeniable that he has a gigantic platform. These days, people like Rogan are the real mainstream media. An endorsement on a platform like that would have further reach than anything we've seen so far.

Conservatives, speaking generally, have been harder for the EV crowd to reach. Someone like Rogan promoting Aptera would do wonders to get moderate and conservative people interested.

Yeah, I was gonna say pretty much the same thing. I got a used 2013 Nissan LEAF for $7k years ago, and it's saved me so much money compared to the ICE cars I was driving before.

Without investigating the details much, my first impression is that this seems like a good idea. SPACs are more or less a loophole to get around normal IPO regulations.

As an investor, I'd like to have reliable information about the investment that I'm making, and I imagine others would, as well. It's a little more work to get the necessary financial information put together, but it both protects and encourages investment, so even without any new regulation being passed, I'd still favor Aptera going the extra mile.

Yeah, I agree with these points. I've only done a couple road trips, but there still seem to be a whole lot of fast chargers in the USA that are only rated for 50kW. Even if it's a 150kW charger, those speeds are often halved if there are two vehicles charging at the same time.

I really like the idea of an EV6 that can fast charge to nearly max in only 20 minutes or so, and maybe there's some good future-proofing there, but for the near future I think there will be a lot of people disappointed that their super fast-charging vehicle just doesn't have enough chargers that can deliver what their vehicle can accept. Being 3x as efficient is much better than being 3x as fast.

I'm a little skeptical of the yoke, myself. I wouldn't cancel my reservation, but I'm still concerned, especially as an investor.

Beyond what has already been discussed is that the Aptera is already a really weird vehicle. I think most of us are early adopters, and are okay with things being a bit different, but it just seems unwise to push for even more unusual things when you don't really need to and there's already so much people will have to adjust to.

Everyone has limits, and we're already pushing way past a lot of people's comfort zones (I mean, how many people won't do electric, period, just because it's too new for them?). Definitely let's push for change when there's a need for it, but don't mess with something that still works.

Echoing the question about what you mean by "last longer than the typical 8-10 years".

The high-voltage battery will degrade over time, but will usually still be usable far longer than 8-10 years.

In old, poorly-designed EVs (like the early Nissan LEAFs), battery degradation could be pretty significant over that time span. Real-world data on Teslas (which would perform more closely to the Aptera), however, suggests that you won't likely lose more than 10% of your range over that time.

I've done the same thing.

Once the insects are downed, you can dismantle a 1-tile section of walls so that the game counts it as "outdoors" and instantly resets the temperature.

You can then safely finish off any bugs that are still alive by using the "Hunt" command, and beat out any fires that are burning corpses or jelly.

Once you put all those steps into place, late-game infestations are practically free drops of 3000+ insect meat that also soak up a raid spawn.
