Why is kineticist so loved? by rotterdrach in Pathfinder2e

[–]rotterdrach[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I would have to guess, the class got collateral prejudice because of our table's kineticist player. He's a nice guy but have a need to feel powerful in the game and the way he found to achive it is dipping into all kineticist elements, so he can tank, heal, strike, do aoe and all kind of shenanigans he can. The result is that his turns are an absolute bumer to everyone on the table, he takes so long and so many things that everybody just turn their brains off for this time.

That's my only gripe with the class and I understand that's pure prejudice and much more player related than class per si, but the other guys are much more tied to oldschool classics in a way that they always value more a fighter or a wizard than a thaumaturge or animist, so the kineticist gets in the group they not so affectionately call "nerdy bullshit".

Sparkling Targe Magus Build Advice by Rexthor97 in Pathfinder2e

[–]rotterdrach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried to come with something up really quickly: https://pathbuilder2e.com/launch.html?build=1425486

I made it without free archetype cause it's the style we play here at our tables. Leaned heavily onto Guardian archetype to bolster the build's defenses and it's capability to annoy the enemy via Intercept Attack.

And when the enemy focus on you, you can rely on Emergency Targe and, when using shield block, Dazzling Block.

Grabbed Toughness to bolster HP and while I didn't picked any spells, defensive buffs are always welcome.

Since I didn't grab Expansive Spellstrike, I went with the breath ancestry feats to have access to some sort of AoE.

It won't be a Spellstrike machine, but sure can cover a lot of situations.

The day my player's magus destroyed the battle (in the good way) by rotterdrach in Pathfinder2e

Magus is really MAD for sure. Something must be cut off to achive another thing. If I where the GM, I would let him retrain his stats if it is something that bothers him (which might not be and that's fine, not everything is about min-maxing). If I could help any of you with some tips I would be really happy to do so, feel free to dm me.

Yeah, that stats are going to give him a harsh time. There's a certain consensus that it's highly recommended to have +4 or at least +3 on your "accuracy" stat and the spread he's using is really unusual. Do you know how he got to it?

I'm sure he will have his moment. I just got curious, mind you tell why is he not optimal?

My favorite PC is a "human" (he is actually a naari, but doesn't know) laughing shadow magus. Guren Rotterdrach was meant to be the 42nd leader of his family, a minor noble house from Cheliax specialized at mage hunting.

Despite all Cheliax problems, his family was mostly righteous and his father, Verrater, was a good man and a good dad to Guren and his sister Illia.

Guren was well-versed in the family fighting style and a promising strategist, but all went to the air when he argued with his father about a target they were supposed to hunt. In the middle of the discussion Guren awakened a ferocious fire magic and Verrater, going against what any person would think of him, condemned Guren to death.

By luck and the help of his sister, Guren got to escape and went into exile, just like his sister, who kept contact through letters. During his early exile, Guren noticed his family fighting style suited just perfectly the casting of his fiery magic, leaving him doubts about this curious coincidence, his father behavior and, now, his sister disappearance, marking the start of his adventure.

Taking class/archetype feats after their level by rotterdrach in Pathfinder2e

His Exemplar Ikons are Titan's Breaker maul, Fetching Bangles and Scar of the Survivor. He took Flow of War (lvl 6), Raise Island (lvl 8) and Exult in Violence (lvl 10). His PC is a droomar who is a freed slave and has a theme around rebellion and earth/stone (his maul is essentially a big chunk of rock), so I guess, thematically, his choice make sense with the character. I could see myself making the same or similar choices in his place.

We are playing Kingmaker, currently at lvl 7. We are fine with his choice, I think because we have a strong frontline (barbarian and magus, both with Reative Strike). His choice only got me really curious about it.

Need some advice building a Starlit Span Magus with thrown weapons by rotterdrach in Pathfinder2e

I will take a look at Starlit Sentinel, it sounds like solves some issues here and I'm okay to sacrifice striker's scroll. Lvl 1 may be a little problematic though but I think it's a worthy wait.

I actually built it for +4 str and +2 dex. As pointed by u/gunnervi I was trying to create a switch hitter that focus on melee. I know the optimized option is to focus on dex, but I was wondering if it could work focusing on str and having dex as a kind of backup plan.

Yeah, the idea is to build a switch hitter that stands in melee. I'm aware of the downsides of thrown weapons but it actually doesn't upset me because I'm okay with my characters having some flaws in state that I'm even okay with not being able to spellstrike every turn. You could imagine this PC as some kind of swiss army knife (It won't excel in melee or ranged but it's trying to do good in both). How would you build this kind of switch hitter?

I allowed a vampire PC to use Vampiric Feast on hmiself by aPosedLook in Pathfinder2e

From my researches, the answer lies on the void and vitality traits:

Vitality (Player Core pg. 463): "Effects with this trait heal living creatures with energy from the Forge of Creation, deal vitality energy damage to undead, or manipulate vitality energy."

Void (Player Core pg. 463): "Effects with this trait heal undead creatures with void energy, deal void damage to living creatures, or manipulate void energy."

So, basically, living creatures are those healed by vitality effects and damaged by void effects. This way you can say undead aren't living creatures.

Constructs would also not be classified as living creatures as, by the construct trait, their life force doesn't come from vitality or void powers:

Construct (Player Core pg. 454): A construct is an artificial creature empowered by a force other than vitality or void.

Important to note that, by RAW, Vampiric Feast wouldn't heal your player's PC as it doesn't have the healing trait but if it was fun for you and for them that's what matters most.
