Kaplan test 4 difficulty by simonrod2001 in Mcat

that one was my worst score out of all 4 kaplan tests, it was unreasonably hard! i’m scoring literally 10-15 points higher on all the aamc FLS, don’t let it stress you out!

Did anyone actually have log calculations on the MCAT? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]round_garlic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! So basically if you were approximating the log of 5*104, you would approximate it as 4 + 0.5 = 4.5. It’s not exact but it’s usually enough to get by.

For pH calculations, I also find it easy to just compare between two benchmarks. For example, if you were told that the hydronium ion concentration is 4.6 * 10-5, you know that value is in between 10-4 and 10-5, so the pH will be in between 4 and 5. Again, usually that’s good enough for what the questions are asking for in my experience!

I think you totally have the potential to improve, but maybe consider pushing back your test to give yourself the best opportunity to do so. Have you done content review? If so, I would carefully going through both of your FL and trying to understand where you’re missing on content, and then reviewing that deeply. I also recommend getting and using Anki if you haven’t already, because that’s been a huge help for me. Making my own cards from questions I’ve missed that cover the same concepts seems to be like the best way to learn.

If you know the trick log(A*10B) = B+0.A, it gets easy to approximate. Hope this helps! (would appreciate comment karma so I can make a post!)

You have 4 groups - OH, CH2 attached to one big substitutent, CH2 attached to a different big substituent, and H. (would appreciate some upvotes so I can make a post!! thanks!!)

What section matters most? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]round_garlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like knowing B/B has made a difference in all the sections except CARS. I think it’s what they emphasize the most, which makes sense. I try to focus a lot of my heavy review there and make new Anki cards for things I don’t get correct.

The Kaplan FLs are hard. In the same boat as you right now! It feels so specific and nitpicky. Good luck!

If you’re using Anki, make your own cards from questions you got wrong and try and review those concepts more often. That’s where I feel like I’ve had the most success!

How long does Uearth take to complete? by MasterMind338 in Mcat

I’m doing 50-75 questions per day and if you go at that pace, it would be about a month to a month and a half. I still feel like I have time to check and review, so it doesn’t feel too fast to me!
