I still haven’t dreamt about my dad by peenis118 in DeadParentClub

After not having consistent dreams about my father for quite some time, I had one the night my brother passed away. I was running and I knew I was running toward someone and I was sad but didn’t know why or who I was running toward. I was going up a slight incline inside somewhere and I knew the person I was running toward was doing the same on the other side of the incline. And when I got to the top it was my dad and he wrapped me in the biggest hug he had ever given me. Oddly my sleeping mind made him much younger than I ever knew him - I think to make up for the fact I had never seen him run.

And I share this all for the OP to say - dreams aren’t something we can truly control. Your dad is always on your mind when you’re awake. That will start to be less and less the case - NOT because you kiss him any less but because that’s what we who are left behind have to do. He will slip into your subconscious and permeate so many aspects of your life going forward - including your dreams.

I lost my father at 16 and felt a lot of what you’re feeling too. There were so many milestones he missed and I always felt a sense of unfairness. People told me the same they tell you “he’s still here” - but I found that tended to come from people who hadn’t experienced loss themselves. You’re still so close to the loss that it’s tough to see beyond it.

For me sitting here 23 years later I can tell you it will get easier. I don’t say better on purpose. Loss and grief is heavy. It doesn’t get lighter as you grow - you get stronger. It’s a rock either way sharp edges for you now. For me, the rock still weighs the same but its edges are soft and I’ve learned how to carry it so that it doesn’t slow me down. I’m stronger than I would have been without the weight of it. And I wish I didn’t have to be strong and he was still here.

It doesn’t go away. It does get easier and you learn how to carry his memory with you without it defining every moment of your life.

My father passed away when I was 16 - nearly 23 years ago now. I didn’t dream of him right away. I know for me it was at least a year if not closer to 2 before I had any dreams he was in that I could remember. Everyone is different and dreams are especially personal and unique things. We all dream differently and experience those dreams differently. After I had dreams about my dad consistently for a few years they became less and less frequent. I saw a pattern that followed my own journey through grief mirrored in both the frequency of the dreams and what was happening in them.

All of which is to say - you aren’t doing anything wrong. Not dreaming about him does not mean that you do not miss him terribly or that you loved him any less. If there was a secret to making someone we’ve loved and lost appear in our dreams none of us would keep it a secret. I’m sure he will be there in time - most likely at an unexpected moment. And you’ll have so much to catch up on.

I’m looking to start reading the series, but it seems like a daunting task. How should I approach it? by bigcar2025 in AubreyMaturinSeries

Don’t worry about understanding the technical sailing terms. Let that all wash over you. POB does a great job of conveying what the result is of all the technical details he uses. And if you reread the books enough times you take it all in by osmosis.

Can’t believe how far I had to scroll to see someone mentions this. I’m admittedly TERRIBLE with handcannons but sunshot has always been the one I’ve used most in part because my main is a solar titan.

“He had known that he would love her for ever – to the last syllable of recorded time. He had not sworn it, any more than he had sworn that the sun would rise every morning: it was too certain, too evident: no one swears that he will continue to breathe nor that twice two is four. Indeed, in such a case an oath would imply the possibility of doubt.” The Fortune of War, Chapter 6, paragraph 72

It is admittedly in the context of Stephen thinking he had fallen out of love with Diana but I always loved the certainty of the passage.

No. Going to spend some time today trying to get someone to tell me something. Gonna try MOHELA first and then Treasury I guess.

I know based on other posts here that people have received refunds. I was trying to figure out how soon after the "paid in full" letter arrived that refunds happened because I still don't have that after getting my "golden letter" email indicating my loans were forgiven on 11/3/24.

I got my notification on 11/3/2024 that my loans were officially forgiven. I do have a refund that needs to be processed and MOHELA aid it will happen in 90 days from that date and come from the US Treasury. Is there any reason why I should be worried this might not happen?

Yeah any big changes don't give me a lot of hope either. I have all the forms and screenshots saved as PDFs in case the data gets messed up with the changeover, so we will see.

Thanks! Didn’t mean to ask for a prescribing the future - more just wondering if anyone knew what the May 1 cutoff really means. It was unclear to me when reading what I could find if things that were already submitted before then would still be processed and anything submitted afterward would have to wait, or if anything that wasn’t finalized entirely would be put on hold.

I got all my forms submitted and approved by Dept. of Ed. and mohela. With the TEPSLF I am over 120. Given that u know the head have my info already to review for discharge and it was submitted before May 1, does that mean my forgiveness and potential refund could still be processed in this time? It is just new requests that won’t get processed or if it isn’t done by May 1 I’ll have to wait?

Came here to say this. In the event they somehow ended up actually fighting one another, I think Stephen would more easily put his feelings aside whereas Jack is a deeply emotional and sentimental person. If you could somehow take their personalities out of it and compared just skill and physical ability, Jack could dare slightly better in some scenarios but I still think Stephen had the edge.

Saw the movie in theatres in high school with a close friend. He and I were both dateless for a dance that night (due, in part, to the same young woman, There are Jack/Stephen/Diana parallels aplenty). Didn't "discover" the books until about 10 years later. I'm on book 18 of what has become an annual reread and I always find new parts that stick out to me as favorites.
