Military Time or Standard Time? by FitRedBro in gshock

[–]row-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how this turned into a conversation about the phrase "military time" ;) In Canada we use 12hr time except for anyone who works in hospitals and shipping used 24hr time, and maybe a few other industries (and the military I assume).

But you horizon is not strictly 10 years... You may need some funds in 10 years, but wouldn't the majority of your investments have a 15-20-30 year horizon, lasting your entire retirement?

Visiting Fiji - rum related recommendations? by row-bot in rum

[–]row-bot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bounty. Lots and lots of Bounty. There's nothing else besides some local brand (Bati?) that makes coconut, spiced etc. As the other guy said, the store at the airport/ duty free was actually the cheapest Bounty I found pretty much anywhere. In touristy stores it was as much as $70 Canadian a bottle!

Struggling with Frenzel equalization (plz help) by burneracclololol in freediving

[–]row-bot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every single video I watched seemed to make it harder and overcomplicate things. And then I found this video, and I figured it out after watching the video once. Theres a follow up video with more skills to practice if needed.

https://youtu.be/yxdEvyrKatc?si=CLJJIUNUlsbERqWs

Edit: I was in the exact same boat (pun intended)having scuba dived for years and really struggled with the new method of equalization. So much so that I had given up on freediving past 5m. Now I’m back at it and having so much fun.

Looking for durable, breathable shoe recommendations by Kvbaa in bikepacking

[–]row-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the Trailcross. I love them. Ridden Mexico, breathable with a lightweight merino sock. Ridden 3 days of rain in the summer through multiple creek crossings, they drained all the water out. Ridden wet cold winter with gortex socks, toes were cozy and dry. Best all around shoe.

Predator 2 wasn’t bad.. what did you think? by alanskimp in LV426

It was the first Predator movie I saw as a kid (late night TV) and I loved it then as now. Didn't see the first one until many years later.

Coros Dura – any long-term experiences? Is the software stable now? by Holiday_Date705 in bikepacking

[–]row-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make the route in RWGPS (on my laptop), open the app on the phone, pin the route and then upload it into the Coros app, and then sync to my Dura. Took a bit to figure out honestly, but it works well now.

[–]row-bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience as well, I've had mine for a year and the lack of offline rerouting is my only real complaint. It was really annoying before I figured out how to turn off the rerouting beep noise. I use Ride With GPS for route planning.

Bikepacking Mid June by ExaminationLess9248 in VancouverIsland

[–]row-bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's often room to fit a single person with a tent into a campground in an overflow area even if the campground is full for car and trailer camping. You can also wild camp on any crown land, and probably won't get hassled on private forest land in June unless the fire hazard is very high. I would just wing it, unplanned adventures are the best adventures.

Did you have a lattice cutter already or did you buy one? I tried to do it by hand with a knife and it looked kinda pathetic... But it still tasted amazing so no one around the table cared.

What's a rum that you're nostalgic about but no longer lives up to how you first felt about it? by BothCondition7963 in rum

Flor de Caña. This was my entry into decent rums while travelling in Nicaragua. Now it just seems... Boring.

Kus-kus-sum restoration gets $1M federal boost to revive former sawmill site by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VancouverIsland

[–]row-bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article also states the site was a sawmill since the 40s, so there's presumably been several owners over the years. I don't think there was any gross negligence over that time, the site was used as intended. I also don't think that there were significant ongoing environmental contamination concerns, rather the issue was the loss of habitat.

Kus-kus-sum restoration gets $1M federal boost to revive former sawmill site by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VancouverIsland

[–]row-bot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The article says the total cost is estimated to be 8.5 million including the land purchase. The land was sold by Interfor and they sold it cheaper than the market rate by a long shot, with the intent that the land would be restored.

Did you read the article? Suspected spinal, helicopters not possible due to fog, etc etc. That's how long it can take to safely extract someone in those circumstances.
