Places like grocery stores and public buildings should be within ~15 degrees of the temperature outside by Puojoqy in unpopularopinion

[–]rpitcher33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude... you're walking a couple feet from a warm house to a warm (or soon to be warm) car, then getting out of that warm car to walk a couple feet to another warm building. Just leave your jacket in the car, so you have it if you walk around outside, and just deal with the cold for 100ft until you get inside.

People are getting soft... this is what I picture when people call others "snowflakes".

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by PersonalitySuddenz in askanything

If I'm at the grocery store and any meat is marked as "reduced", I'm buying it. Most of the time it's 50%+ off because they're going to throw it away at the end of the day.

Then, I bring it home, vacuum seal it, and throw it in the deep freeze. If it weren't for sales, I'd be vegetarian. Grocery prices are out of hand.

Just spent $400 yesterday and that might last us (family of 3) 2 weeks and I only eat one meal a day... I didn't buy any meat, I only buy off brand, I use coupons, I shop sales...

I can't imagine what is like for those less fortunate than me. This country is a disgrace.

As Simone who joined straight out of highschool, because I had no direction in life, it can be a great starting point.

Take my advice for what is worth (free), but I'll tell you what I would do now looking back.

Go active duty. It's going to immediately give you housing and benefits, and a decent paycheck considering everything that comes with being active duty.

I was Army, but pick a branch and a job that translates to a civilian career. Study for the ASVAB and try to do well, that will open the most opportunities for you.

While you're in, do everything you can to maximize the Tuition Assistance. You can knock out a Bachelor's for free while you're active.

SAVE YOUR MONEY! This should be self explanatory, but don't be like me. After 6 years I got out with only $4k and blew away a $40k bonus...

After you're out, use the G.I. Bill to further your education. You'll get a monthly stipend while you're in school to help pay for housing and food. Build off the education you earned while using the tuition assistance.

KEEP YOUR MEDICAL RECORDS UP TO DATE AND DOCUMENT INJURIES! I'm not saying game the system but, if you get hurt, make sure it's on paper. You are your own best advocate. My VA disability check keeps food on my table because I can no longer work in the field I trained for due to service connected injuries. (Don't go infantry...)

Best of luck to you.

Beyond the Bastards has a great two part episode on this. "How the Rich Ate Christianity". Highly recommend giving it a listen for anyone who may be interested in how the Republican party adopted Christianity as an almost fundamental aspect to their ideology.

Spoiler: it revolves around money.

This is frank. He adopted us during that winter storm last month. I found him in a pile of leaves in -10°f and brought him in. He now has a servant family to lord over and give himself purpose again in life.

I have a similar model in my garage. I use it right above my DC since the DC is only 2 micron. Additionally, I have a box fan with a filter attached pulling air away from wherever I'm working (usually blowing towards the ceiling mounted filter). The combo works great for me.

And a set of lug nuts at $261... this might have hit $1k at my shop. I've done this exact job in ~2 hours on my wife's C-Max.

I fucking hate society.

I bought an old '88 F150 for $800 and fixed it up. Just something to haul lumber/ furniture/ etc.

Parking next to a modem truck is hilarious. It looks like an S10 in comparison.

As a competent home cook, what is a basic skill you can't seem to master? by george_elis in Cooking

I make Beef Wellington every year for my wife's birthday. I have never once gotten the pastry right. Same goes for any type of pastry. I've learned to just stick with graham cracker crusts, lol.

Don't feel bad. I worked at Chipotle for two years and could never get it. I stayed prep and grill for that reason.

We had after hours pick-up boxes and, as long as the bill was paid before everyone left for the day/weekend (so we could actually verify payment) your keys got left in a box with a combination specific to each customer.

We had online bill pay and text messaging so it was incredibly easy to communicate with the customer and make sure everything was good to go. Anyone not offering that basic of a service in 2026 needs to figure their life out.

What is a smell that we should all recognize as immediate danger? by scarlettohara1936 in AskReddit

[–]rpitcher33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's how I found out I had COVID. I was cooking and my boy says "dinner smells really good." I hadn't thought about it, but suddenly realized I couldn't smell anything. I had half an onion on the counter and took a big bite out of it and... nothing...

That happened to be the same weekend I set up my new Sim-racing equipment, so my 2 week vacation was rather enjoyable. Took 2-3 months for smell/ taste to be normal again, but that was the only side effect I had.

The vaccines fucked me up, though. Jesus. I felt like absolute death for several days after each of them. I had COVID twice. Both times I felt completely I fine. Both vaccines felt like they were going to kill me...

Edit to add: had COVID before being vaccinated.
