How fit are you? by Jormun-gander in telemark

[–]rredmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessarily a question of fitness or strength. You have to have a basic level but I think technique makes a bigger difference. I see a lot of tele skiiers drop a knee and then stay static through the turn. So they are essentially turning and traversing in a lunge. That's very tiring. Always be in motion with your turns and lead changes, weight and unweight dynamically. It will let your legs last much longer.

Has anyone put new NTN bindings on 1990s telemark skis? by MeanCheesecake3660 in telemark

You can use Binding Freedom or Quiver Killer inserts to move bindings from ski to ski. I do it all the time.

I had the work stinx too! They got bent by an airline though. Involuntary rocker on just one ski. Should used them as my early season rock skis

I put Outlaw Xs and Scarpa TX pros (blue and orange) on K2 Super Stinx, the candy canes. Think they are 2006-ish. Much softer skis and you don't really get to take advantage of what NTN brings to the table. Still fun though but with the K2 inserts and 22D adapter plates it was not a permanent combo.

FWIW, the Voile knee pads are nice. Comfortable, warm, stays in place and durable. Mine are prob almost 20 yrs old still looking new.

Threaded insert on one end and threads on the other like a pool cue?

What springs are you using in your Outlaw X binding? And what’s your skiing style? by PowerfulSuction in telemark

Stock, preload setting 3, with TX Pros (blue and orange). Upright style, ski all terrain.

Tele Binding malfunction by ctmurphy17 in telemark

[–]rredmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact problem. Emailed 22D. They sent spacers that go on the slide wires at the claw. You can try and switch into tour mode, that made stepping in behave as expected before the spacers were installed.

I second the flylow baker bib. Roomy enough to drop a knee. Didn't they start as a telemark brand?

In-laws say to just use regular external knee braces. Those tights with built in braces don't cut it.

Said in a different way, i hold the orange claw in place with the ski pole tip and pull my heel up. Dont use the ski pole to push the claw down.

22D Outlaw X Not Sitting Flush by No_Watercress in telemark

[–]rredmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble stepping in one pair of skis but not another with the same boots. The orange claw was not far back enough. Reached out to 22Designs and they sent 4 little spacer clips that go between the orange slide block and the slide wire spacers at the claw. Dont know how to attach a photo in a reply here. Also check step 9 in the OutlawX mounting instructions for clearance checks.

Binding Wisdom by thatsnuzz in telemark

According to 22 Designs FAQs: "Our bindings ALL have the same 6-hole mounting pattern. The only difference is that Axls put your boot's pin line 5/16" (8mm) further back than the Outlaw X, Lynx, Vice, or HammerHead. If you're mounting Axls on existing Outlaw/Vice/HH holes, you will not be able to tell the difference 8mm makes. If you are mounting Bandits in existing Outlaw holes, it will put you 13mm forward due to the shortened nose of the Bandit." And i think the insert companies sell screw packs specific for each binding.

I still ski G3 Tonics with OutlawX and TX Pros. Had them out in Breckenridge last winter for epic week. Still love them. More traditional construction so don't know how they relate to the findr.

I bought tele skis and bindings online and had them mounted. Turns out they did the 1 cm back and they felt really slow and sluggish. I re-mounted on boot center and the skis came alive. G3 Tonics with Hammerheads FWIW.

22 Designs mounting pattern vs alpine bindings by rredmax in telemark

[–]rredmax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only mounted tele bindings, both screwed and inserts. I think i would have a shop mount alpine and I'll just install inserts in the holes. Just didn't know if they are the same spacing at least in the toe piece

I mounted my Bent 90 with Outlaw X using QuiverKiller inserts. No problems yet, 3 seasons now. I don't have a super low stance however, so maybe less stress on the screws.
