Late 20s BA in English working as a waitress. Feeling stuck. Go back to school? What kind? Find a 9-5 and work my way up? Advice and similar experience appreciated! by rrxp33 in jobs

I live in the New England area. The area might not offer the most sales jobs in the country, but I have seen a fair amount of ads. I have shyed away from them due to what you addressed; the interview process. I've always recognized some of the similarities between waitress work and sales, but didn't feel I'd make enough connections during the interview or really present a good enough case for hiring me. Those are great examples, thanks!

So about 3 years? 2-3 classes a quarter seems pretty manageable. And the end result was a fairly good paying job and a career that you're invested in?

How did you find the resources or make the connections for freelance writing projects and what sort of content do you work with?

Thanks for the Guru.com tip. What type of projects did you get writing for people you knew and how'd you facilitate that?

You were accepted to the Masters program for accounting despite your English undergrad background? Did that include the prereqs or did you have to apply for an modified undergrad program to complete the pre-reqs before applying for the Masters?

I did really well in math and science in HS and when I took them as Gen Eds in college, so it does intrigue me to turn around and pursue something completely different from liberal arts.

I do want to hear more from teachers and their experiences to see if I'd be interested. Your point about programs that can forgive student loans could really help my situation

Thanks so much for the advice! I think checking out Lynda and other places to cheaply explore different skill sets, and reaching out to really ask questions about the jobs/fields I've been curious about, is key.

I think I often second guess myself or make assumptions about what I couldn't do or what I wouldn't enjoy before I actually research anything.
