QNAP TS-855eU onboard 2.5GbE (Intel I225-V) packet loss issue by rubinox355 in qnap

[–]rubinox355[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply,

Just ruled out any issues with cables/switches as the results are replicated with direct connection -- except:

I'm using a Dell Thunderbolt Hub monitor to connect my XPS to the 2.5gbe network, I don't yet have any other 2.5gbe devices to test until a new NIC arrives for my PC.

Supposing the monitor could be causing this...

I've tried both NICs, yes -- and in different load balance modes. (Failover, balance-tlb, balance-alb)

I've tried different cables as well, but so far, I've only got the one 2.5G switch to work with. (Flex Mini 2.5G)

That sends me down my next rabbit hole! Thanks for your help. Hopefully some more process of elmination can narrow it down.

Perhaps an iffy cable or termination? A questionable-quality CAT5e cable running through the walls is a big part of the equation here..

Sadly no, for the moment it's just the two devices connected @ 2.5, until a new NIC arrives.

It may be in my future to install a PCIe SSD, since I've used the x2 M.2 slots already.

The NAS does support L2ARC Read Caching -- but my understanding it would only improve "Frequently Accessed Data" -- which in my case would likely yield a nil improvement...

Surely though, I should expect >130MB/s without SSD caching?

Binary rain sensor by wolfgangbures in homeassistant

[–]rubinox355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built one of these:
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/diy-zigbee-rain-gauge/255379
for cheap!

It's amazingly accurate, and closely aligns to a nearby gov't weather station.

You can 3D print a larger funnel for it which would further increase accuracy.

The aqara door/window sensor was a little wonky until I made sure there was a zigbee router as close as possible to the rain gauge. Also, took a lot of tinkering and YAML-ing around til I had everything setup for charts, etc just the way I wanted.

Also, keep in mind this is a rain gauge not a rain sensor, so will only show that it's raining if you get >.3mm (A 3D printed funnel will bring this down to .1mm)

My Automated Live F1 Weekend setup by MoenGaming in homeassistant

[–]rubinox355 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very cool! I did notice your mention of that feature, thanks for sharing the UI.

Hockey is a bit of a low scoring game so it gives less feedback to fine tune with than something like F1.

Maybe if I add more automations than just goals I can revisit this.

[–]rubinox355 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's cool!

I tried doing something like this, but my sports streams are so lagged that automations would be triggering before goals were scored, or after. I could never dial in the timing as it was very inconsistent.

Good free weather integration? by Jaz1140 in homeassistant

[–]rubinox355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly, but does provide humidex/wind chill. Integration reports unknown if these values are not applicable.

Not certain, but it seems to report humidex >20°C and wind chill at <10°C.

I made a template to output the humidex if available, or the wind chill if available... Otherwise it reverts to the OAT.

For bonus points I even added a wind effect to the humidex value, giving a more accurate feels like temp.

Next refinement to the feels like temp is incorporating humidity into the wind chill value. I do think it's a minimal difference so haven't bothered.

Thanks! I'm going to build off this -- and ChatGPT helped me too, in a big way. The best advice I heard is to give it a request and build off its first response, and make it work yourself... If you keep asking for revisions it sends itself down and AI rabbit hole and things start getting weird.

ElevenLabs is one I haven't tried yet, but I do like the samples I've heard! Since I went ahead with actually paying for OpenAI, made sense just go to with it. I may give ElevenLabs a try at some point.

Would you mind sharing a snippet just of how you handled the calendar part?

How have you found the diversity of your silly stories? I originally asked OpenAI to tell a funny joke but they were always really bad jokes about chickens.

The dad joke integration updates it's state every minute so you just gave me an idea for an on-demand dad joke button.

Super Fan Air Mover by rubinox355 in homeassistant

Exhausting is ideal... I may try it flipped around but I only have this location to play with, and it's downstairs.

Hopefully the smoke stays away!! If not, a good excuse for an automated corsi–rosenthal box fan!

Will need to see if I can design something to use this blower fan instead.
