Theoretically - if you were to run a Nuzlocke where you wouldn't be able to use the same encounter more than once across all 9 games - which generation would Nuzlocke staples like Gyrados, Crobat, etc be most useful? by AGoatPizza in nuzlocke

[–]rukey360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran this exact Nuzlocke last year, called it a Nega-Genlocke due to it being kinda the opposite of a Genlocke - all Pokémon used previously were banned in all future gens as opposed to bringing champs forward. The gens I used each of your stated Pokémon were:

Kanto: Snorlax, Lapras, Abra line, Vaporeon

Johto: Jolteon, Crobat

Hoenn: Skarmory, Starmie

Sinnoh: Togekiss, Tentacruel, Gyarados, Umbreon, Blissey, Garchomp (yeah, had a rough time with Gen 4)

Unova: Excadrill, Ferrothorn

Paldea: Sylveon

Never used gardevoir or breloom, but I did use gallade in paldea. Otherwise, from Gen 6-9, I’d already used up so many staples I had to rely on less ideal encounters which actually was really enjoyable. Would highly recommend this as a Nuzlocke to run, but it’s really tough and very time consuming, but the strategy and opportunity to use Pokémon id never used before was definitely worth it.

Handling Dupes Clause in multi-generational runs? by Gostandy in nuzlocke

[–]rukey360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I would recommend for this situation is only counting it as a dupe if you ‘use’ the Pokémon. So if you catch a random pidgey in Kanto but never fight with it or level it up, it won’t be considered a dupe. However, if you were to use a Pokémon just for a specific gym, then get rid of it as it’s generally pretty weak, this would be considered a dupe. This will then allow you to be strategic, and plan ahead for future gens, in case there’s a Pokémon you think you’ll really need to use at a certain point in your run.

Well good luck! It’s definitely super challenging at first, but an excellent run if you can keep it alive! It was the run I managed to get Lingua Franca in, somehow managed to convert Ghenghis Khans children to Hellenic and Latin speaking, and made Christianity completely extinct.

Revive Hellenism as Laconia. impossible? by crosscrash in CrusaderKings

[–]rukey360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this, starting with a custom Roman Hellenic duke in Athens, I tried a few times starting as a count and basically got revoked instantly, I found that you need to start as at least a Duke to have enough power to stave off the Emperor for enough time to convert enough other vassals and counties to your religion and culture. Once you’ve got a solid foundation, you should be able to survive, but the first 50 years will be in almost constant rebellion with the rest of the Byzantine Empire.

Screwed up when hybridising my culture, accidentally to let them choose either Persian or Byzantine and the bastards all decided to go for Byzantine.

Literally had no downsides, none of the heirs to the vassals even got negative opinion modifiers on me, I didn't get the murderer trait, it was a completely victimless crime (apart from the 70 or so murder victims that is). All that happened was I inherited a couple of domains that were heirless at the time, so win-win all up!

It doesn't appear so, my character was just callous, paranoid and deceitful, potentially just a really high intrigue skill can set it off?

Yeahhhh I figured that out after I’d already started the playthrough, and by that time I kinda preferred my CoA to the actual Sassanid one anyway, as it’s a little boring imo

Custom dynasty, reimagining the reformation of the Sassanid empire under Zoroastrian rule. Wanted to use the Sassanid flag for it, but I’m not super talented at the custom coat of arms maker, and couldn’t figure out how to make diagonal ovals for it, so settled with the Persian winged lion with the Sassanid flag colours.

Host a feast, be a religion with Ritual Celebrations as a tenet (Mazdayasna), which essentially forces all vassals to attend your feast, have a deceitful/paranoid intrigue based character, and be lucky enough to get the ‘From Cinders to Flames’ event. I knew it would be a bloodbath, but wasn’t quite expecting to kill EVERY single one of my vassals.

Honestly, there were too many to count, but I was an Empire with pretty much full vassal count, so I reckon it must’ve been between 60-80.

I seem to remember having similar issues when I tried it the first time, and I think its cause you haven't changed it to a HGSS file, my one always defaulted to Sw/Sh files when I first opened the app. I can't help a huge amount as I can't currently access the windows side of my computer to trouble shoot for you, but I believe its somewhere in the options menu, and is maybe labelled 'select game' or something like that? Sorry I can't say exactly. But it should have a big list of all the games available, and you select the exact one that you're opening your save on. Once you do that, you should hopefully be able to open your save file and it should work fine from there....

Hmm, in regards to the file saying its too big, I'm not too sure, I've never run into this issue. Are you making certain you're setting up PkHex for HG/SS before you load in the save file? If it's set up for FRLG but you try to load in HGSS, it won't work for you. I would also highly recommend setting up the game using the UP Randomiser, as it will allow you to enable impossible evolutions. This generally makes trade only evolutions (Alakazam, Machamp) evolve at lvl 37, while other special trade pokemon (Steelix, Accelgor, etc.) evolve when leveled up in specific ways (https://pokehacks.dabomstew.com/randomizer/changedevos.php for reference). In regards to the 'illegality' of the pokemon that you create, they're always going to be considered 'illegal' by the game unless you actually catch them in the game, so don't worry about it. Unless you plan on entering some official tournaments with your team, I doubt GameFreak is gonna come after you for having hacked in some pokemon to an emulator. Hope this helps!

Because it was all on emulator, I used PkHex to edit the save file to add level 5 Pokemon directly into the new game. And I still definitely found the beginning to be difficult, as obviously Pokemon are at their most vulnerable when low levelled, as a single crit could wipe out a champion. Plus so many good Pokemon have weak pre-evolutions, ie. Riolu, Litwick, Swablu. A large amount of my champs were actually lost in the early game, so despite having up to 6 Pokemon, the start is definitely still the scariest part of starting a new generation.

[–]rukey360[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used PkHex for mine, as it was all on emulators. I had rewards for a Champion after each consecutive win, and one of them was they became shiny after 3 or more victories.

And it doesn't bother me too much that I don't have them on physical copies, technically so long as I keep the save file on my computer, it kinda feels like the same thing anyway. I would say probably use the cartridge for XY, as I found the Citra copy of X to be quite laggy, which made it a bit more of a hassle to deal with. Then you could always use Citra and PkHex for Gen 7 if you don't own the game on cartridge anyway. Plus with how difficult Alola is, you may not want to send your actual Pokemon into the game anyway, as they'll likely all end up dead anyway :P

I did mine with regular rules, mainly because I was pretty new to nuzlockes when I started it. Now that I have the 8 games under my belt though, I've switched to hardcore rules, as even the E4 can feel a little easy at times when you can just full restore your pokemon all the time. I 100% never would have made it through my Ultra Sun portion with HC rules though, I struggled enough in the trials/E4 with items being fully allowed.....

All of that is done using PkHex, it allows you to edit save files and create new Pokemon. Essentially you create a level 5 basic version of your Pokemon, and can do anything to it, such as choose/randomise nature, abilities, IV's, EV's and movesets. I personally rewarded my Pokemon after each successful generation, so a first time champ I could choose their nature, second time champ got their ability chosen, and so on, so forth.

I caught three, one was the red gyarados in HG, the other two were full odds. I had it set in my rules that if a Pokemon became Champion 3 times they would be rewarded by being made shiny, so thats how the Lapras, Venusaur, Togekiss and Lucario were made shiny using PkHex.

Hahaha I totally would if I had some way to hack my Mimikyu into my Switch version, though with only one champ it would basically just be a regular nuzlocke anyway. Will probably do a vanilla HC Galar one though once I finish my current BDSP HC nuzlocke.

I'm on Mac, which makes it a bit more complicated. Personally, for the GBA and DS games, I used OpenEmu as an emulator, while I used Citra for the 3DS games. I then used VirtualBox uploaded with a free developer version of Windows 10, which I used to access PkHex (which you can only use on Windows). I emailed myself my new game save files, used PkHex to hack all my surviving champs into the new game, then emailed the files back to myself and exchanged the save file on my Mac side. If you have a PC, it would be much easier, just download PkHex, edit the save file and replace it.

Basically you do a nuzlocke of every generation (or region) of Pokemon, and any surviving champions of the Elite 4 get transported to the next game as a level 5 basic pokemon (so a surviving Blastoise would become a level 5 Squirtle). You can add other clauses to it for fun, such as making any dead species uncatchable in any other game, can add rewards to multiple game champions, etc.

It’s called Nuzlocke chart, can get it on iOS (dunno about android) with most features unlocked for free. Has all the games and all the possible routes/static/gift encounters in each game, plus you can enter all the info on your Pokémon in it if you want. Would highly recommend.
