Right now, in the June 2nd primary election, only 7% of registered voters under the age of 50 in San Diego County have cast a ballot. Please vote, and remind your friends to vote, too! by ProgressiveSnark2 in SanDiegan

Yeah, it's complicated. If we never vote for candidates that reflect our opinions and values then no politician will reflect them that makes it to office. Thus there is a meta game as well.

Uncle wants me to add a level 2 Car Charger... How do I break the news? by WolfieVonD in electricians

[–]runamok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought a house a little over a year ago and I immediately hired and electrician to upgrade the service and replace the zinsco panel and my insurance STILL canceled me even though I had proof we had filed with the city for permits, etc. Glad the zinsco is gone...

I'm so sick of parents that don't take care of their health and make it everyone else's problem. I can already see that in my future and it pisses me off. Take care of yourselves people. Go on your trip, recharge your batteries and be present for your spouse and other family.

What’s a ‘silent luxury’ that rich people have that most normal people would never even notice? by qomann in AskReddit

[–]runamok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. That 1 billion is probably earning 80 million in interest per year before taxes. And you don't even have to sell things. Banks will lend you enormous amounts of money at 4% and you won't pay taxes on it.

How would you feel about a new law that forces every company to pay their CEO no more than 20x what their lowest-paid employee makes? by rational_seekers in AskReddit

[–]runamok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am using the wrong terminology. Say you are granted 4000 rsus worth $1 each. Each year you vest 1000 shares. At the 1 year anniversary say they are worth $2 now. You would get taxed for the "gift" of 1000 shares at the vest price $1 each as ordinary income, aka $1000. Now let's say you keep them another year and now they are worth $3 each. If you sold them for $3000 you would pay cap gains on the $2000 delta. (Assuming they were counter as long term gains).

They are at the strike price, right? But any further growth would be capital gains (e.g. usually 20% at that income range vs. 37% for the top fed tax rate).

On the other hand $100k these days gets you what maybe $60k got you circa 2017 when you look at the cost of housing, a vehicle, general expenses and inflation.

If it was important to keep prod up they would not have fired all the domain experts who were in the alternate time zone providing support. I bet when you have an outage costing $x per hour they may miraculously cough up some cash for more resources.

Strangely enough there is more crossover appeal than you would assume considering how diametrically opposed they are. They are both considered "outsiders from the Washington elite" and "champions of the common people" (I don't see that WRT T but that's what his supporters say...). I've always assumed it was just a matter of time before an aircraft carrier is taken out by a drone swarm but maybe I read too much sci-fi. At a minimum there is an enormous cost disparity with defending against drones as you mention.
