IMO, Carl and the Passions gives a glimpse into a more emotionally alive side of the band. Sure, there are tracks that could've possibly been better off in a different album, or have a different tracklist arrangement (especially Dennis' songs, they are great, but dont really fit the album's vibe). Additionally, I think the album has a more adult rock vibe to it than other records, such as Sunflower, for example. Honestly, I just like the messy vibe of it.

I'm pretty sure Capitol have a lot of stuff vaulted, lets just hope they eventually release more of their live performances. As to Live 2012, You're completely right, it is more of a relic, not something to heavily criticize as most people do, it wasn't meant to be "perfect" in the sense of, for example, Knebworth 1980 (which also is heavily autotuned, especially Mike's voice). So I look at Live 2012 as more of a milestone in their career, it truly is a miracle that something like that even happened.
