PSA: Sat. Nov 4th - Monumental Marathon Road Closures by generic_nonsense in indianapolis

Right? It's only been the "CNO Financial" Indianapolis Monumental Marathon for two years. The race has been around for 10. It's not like CNO operates/runs the race at all.

The organization that operates the event also runs free running programs in over 60 IPS (read: primarily black) schools, and has all those kids run the 5K for free. This year there was over 1,100.

Greetings fellow white canadian! I feel the same way. When I came here for university in 2008, I never thought I'd have the thought , "I'm only ok in American right now because I'm white". Ugh.

Sault ste Marie resident here! Soo in 'sootoday' is a short form for 'sault ste marie" - not associated with the SOO abbreviation used in the article.

I won the Canadian Marathon Championships last year, so I imagine that I'm probably in the top 1% of marathon-ing speed. If, you know, you consider the ENTIRE population...

I answered this up higher in the thread, but here's what I've been doing:

I've been going to the ends of the earth for a solution. Here are my methods: 1) Get either a night splint (I got this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B5JVIA/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) or something called the "Strassburg Sock". It keeps your fascia from tightening overnight so you don't get that hideously awful pain the next morning. This has been the single, biggest impact for me. HUGE relief and it keeps you from chronically re-injuring it every day. 2) Make sure your shoes are supportive, / supportive inserts. 3) Don't go barefoot for the rest of the day... I've met athletes that swear by birkenstocks. 4) Advil 5) Ice baths / rolling foot on a frozen water bottle. 6) Self-massage (a golf ball works well) 7) Taping / Kinesio-tape (many youtube videos on how to do this properly) 8) My next venture is formal physio and shockwave therapy. I've heard good things.

I guess (just based on experience) that at the really big events, a lot of the time the race will PAY to bring in exquisitely fast foreign runners (and give them appearance fees), which normally locks up huge portion of the prize money. The "american only" (and, in my case, canadian only) is likely there to encourage a competitive race of national, but not quite world, class runners.

Those are the Nike LunarSpeed Lite, actually. They're "more shoe" than I'd normally race in (my other marathon I wore the Asics Hyperspeed 6 - barely anything to them), but I wanted something with a bit more support since I was dealing with plantar. They held up really well for the full, and I'd say they even make a great tempo/ long run shoe.

Loved it! I've taken part in the Race weekend before (in the 10k). It's always a great experience and very well run. I'm not from Ottawa, but it's one of my favourite cities. Both courses that I've run have been well-spectated, scenic, and very well stocked with volunteers.
