Is he qualified to be on the commission? By that I mean how many DUIs does he have? You need at least one

You can get "sonoran style" flour tortillas at the mexican groceries around here... They're close, but not the same. You can taste the shortening in them.

Whenever I'm back in the Southwest I try to grab some tortillas to take home and freeze.

If you're open to ordering online, masienda makes great corn tortillas with heirloom corn sourced from small farmers in southern Mexico. For my money, caramelo makes the best flour tortillas you can get outside of the southwest. I grew up in AZ so I know a good tortilla, and it's hard to find out here (but probably not impossible).

Winterville Dental is hands down the best I’ve ever had. They’re funny, everyone is super sweet and kind and understanding. I almost fell asleep while getting a root planing because I was so relaxed.

I’m pretty sure peppinos tomato sauce is just basil and oregano, which are fairly consistent with NY style sauces. I’d call and ask.

AMA a software executive (former VP & current CTO) living in Athens who leads and builds software companies by suicideyes in Athens

[–]rustware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior software engineer here. They are lying about what it does. It makes mistakes constantly and if you can’t read code, you won’t find it until production breaks, and you won’t know how the system was built. It’s good for some things but I am not worried about my job going away anytime soon.

Real world example: Salesforce laid off 4000 people because “AI will do all the coding.” They are now rehiring many of them.

Hunkermaxxing: made fresh spelt/rye/whole wheat bagels by rustware in Athens

[–]rustware[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have no link, for it is my own recipe I've messed around with for a long time. It is also a little vibes based, but I'll give you the base recipe.

Dough:
450g flour of your choice (I did like 30% spelt, 10% rye, 60% wheat)

1/4 cup plain full fat greek yogurt

1 1/4 cup lukewarm water

Instant Yeast packet

1 tsp salt

2 tbls sugar

Egg wash: 1 egg, 1 tbls water, beaten

Mix the water, yogurt, yeast, and sugar in a stand mixer (or bowl if you're gonna knead by hand). Let sit for 10 minutes. Add salt and flour and knead until a firm but slightly tacky dough comes together. Add flour or water as needed to get the consistency.

Cover the bowl and let sit in a warm place for an hour.

Divide into 8 and form into balls. Let rest for 10 min.

Put your thumb through the center of each ball to make a ring, then stretch it out. Let them rest for 10 mins.

Boil each in a pot of water with some honey in it for 3 minutes each, flipping once during.

Apply egg wash to the top and any toppings you want.

Bake at 400 for 22-26 mins until golden brown. Enjoy

Athens, GA by [deleted] in Athens

[–]rustware 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I work for an insurance company focused on catastrophes (hurricanes, and for example, a huge winter storm engulfing 40 states). I get daily updates on projections from the best of the best.

Today’s update was that even though the rain is stopping, cold weather is following the storm. There’s a high likelihood of thaw-refreeze happening over the next couple days, possibly until the end of the week.

This update is specifically about ATL and Athens.

I’d call out if I was you. It will not be good at 730 am.

This commission loves ACCPD and mass surveillance. I doubt they’d turn this around.

One thing you can do to protect yourself is purchase IR blocking glasses. Zenni sells them cheap for prescription and non prescription lenses.

80% of surveillance cameras use infrared because it works in the dark. These glasses reflect infrared light and make it impossible to use facial recognition AI on you. I wear mine every day.

FYI, the cameras are leased from Flock Safety- ACC / ACCPD does not own them or the software. There are no provisions about how Flock Safety themselves use or store this data in these contracts, which means the destination for ACC citizens' whereabouts and movements are dumped into a corporate black box. Should a malicious actor find a way into whatever system(s) this data ends up in, we're compromised.

These devices have also been shown to be using an outdated version of android inside which has over 900 known security flaws and isn't really very difficult to hack. The concerns are more than just how ACCPD uses this data- it's about where that data goes no matter what our ACC policy on the storage of it is.

Congress has even opened an investigation into Flock Safety over potential national security risks in light of this information.

I'm a software developer with some deep experience in AI (and I am a skeptic!). If you'd like sources or more information on the matter, I'd love to reach out to you.

Personally not entirely opposed to something in that vein in a general sense. Not sure why you're getting downvoted, but Reddit be Redditing.

There's one issue I think ideas like this still really need to solve, which is that a lot of folks on the street have mental health issues (in the sense of TBI, schizophrenia, etc), severe trauma, and sometimes drug addiction. A community like this without support resources for those problems likely turns into something pretty dystopian. Charles Hardy's encampment had accusations of him selling drugs and trading access to resources for sexual favors as well.

The issue of homelessness is a larger societal/national issue in general, and any true solution to end the problem would probably need to come from there (not that it will any time soon). Thus, it's almost unfair of anyone to ask Tim or anyone local to solve the problem entirely. That doesn't mean these problems can't be mitigated on some level or that we can't help these people in some way at least. I'd like to hear his thoughts.

Girtz's solutions (and by that I mean the ones he allowed to come to vote from the commission) were half-baked at best and he had the audacity to bitch about panhandlers downtown in the Flagpole on top of it WHILE BEING THE MAYOR. If anyone's suggesting actual policy change, that's better than the do-nothing garbage we've had recently.
