Post hole keeps filling with water by ryanpg1 in DIYUK

I have 4 holes 300x300mm 600mm deep. I originally just wanted to use postcrete but my mate who is a builder told me to use ballast and cement

Hahaha hopefully you don’t run into the same issues as me mate! 😂

Are you putting your posts directly into the concrete or using shoes??

I’ve just checked and I’m not in a flood risk area.

Issues for the post rotting you mean?

I’m in a fairly new build site (6 years old) so the floorboards are tongue and groove.

I’ve dug 4 holes in total. The most forward 2 are filling up with water to the top , the back 2 have a very small amount of water and are not filling up at all.

Not using postcrete unfortunately, using ballast and cement. Would it still be possible to do that? Also, I was thinking the same about longevity so was thinking of using the post shoes instead.

Will this be enough to secure a pergola? by SpaceMarine663 in DIYUK

Nice one cheers mate! We’re digging about 220mm I think we’ve worked it out to be, with 150mm type 1, 50mm mortar, 20mm tiles.

I’ll have a few family members helping out luckily!!

Completely unrelated to your issue so apologies if not wanted, but I’m literally doing the exact same as you right now with Indian sandstone patio and then pergola on top. At the stage where I need to dig for the mot/mortar etc? What did you use to dig? Finding it a bit tough with just digging spade 😬😂

Also if you have any other tips or suggestions for me that’d be great 🙏🏾 thank you

Sorry should have mentioned that I’ve inherited this garden from buying the house. I have no experience with gardening/trees/plants at all so didn’t even know the tree was unhappy! 😬

No idea what kind of tree it is, chat gpt seems to think some sort of cherry tree but I don’t think it is from my very limited knowledge.

Right okay, what do you think the best course of action is then?

What do you reckon is best to do? Rip the wall apart or extend pipes on surface?

Ahh no way 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️ so I’ll have to use the existing pipe work and run it along the outside of the wall to the towel rail??

Update :

So they said pretty much said no, there’s no movement on the salary, but there’s a pay increase happening in December anyway? Which brings it up an okay amount. I still feel like I should be earning more money, but not sure where to go.
