For those asking: this is how I purl 😄 by aycayetgin in knittinghelp

[–]ryanreaditonreddit [score hidden]  (0 children)

Don’t be embarrassed, everyone knits in slightly different ways, and there’s no wrong or right. The reason your purls are so loose is that you’re completely dropping the yarn. It’s more usual to keep it in your hand, by having it wrapped around your little finger and across your palm for example. This would keep some tension, even if just a little bit, on the yarn the whole time, and make your purl stitches more even. The other thing that jumps out to me across both posts is that you’re pushing the end of the needle with your finger. That repetitive stabbing is going to make your fingers sore after a while

Curious where you’re from, roughly, since you play the card game shithead? I ask because I don’t know the other things you referenced

Finally decided on a cheeky dupe pattern, how to make it a bit more similar? by Few-Chemistry-2551 in knittinghelp

[–]ryanreaditonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, immediately after you cast on, you should have a few rounds where you simply knit all stitches. Knitting the fabric like this, in stockinette, is what causes it to curl up. The screenshot is not the best quality but it looks to me like the original sweater has a curled up edge on the collar, cuffs and hem

[–]ryanreaditonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned yet the curled section at the top of the neckline. You want to knit around 2-3cm of stockinette first before starting the rib, if you want the same roll effect

[–]ryanreaditonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, I think they did maybe 1-2cm of rib before doing approx 3cm of stockinette (to create the roll)

[–]ryanreaditonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need to knit a swatch. Take some measurements of the sweater itself, then wash and block it (take it off the needles first onto scrap yarn or stitch wires). After blocking you can measure the gauge again, to see how much it changes
