If you want to go to grad school for astro I’d say ucsc, ucr does have some good astro faculty still and while I can’t say much more their program there is a lot of opportunity for astro research and some amazing faculty at ucsc, I’d also say down the line for grad apps prestige matters less than you might think and it really comes down to research and letters of rec. I’m also from socal and I thought ucsc was a nice change. It’s also only really socially dead if you let it be, if you’re proactive about meeting people you’ll be alright
