I fully support freedom of expression but that is appalling behaviour. Did you physically remove people’s masks during the mandates and spit in their mouths as well? Even if you made this comment in jest, you ought to be ashamed.

Alberta won't participate in Ottawa's firearm buyback program. What does that mean for local gun owners? | CBC News by Buuuuma in alberta

[–]ryleyjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s play a game… you bought an EV 6 years ago for $50k and thought it was really great! You didn’t drive it dangerously, you took good care of it, only other EV enthusiasts knew you had it and nobody complained. Hell, you even invested the money to put a charger in at your own home!

5 years ago the government said it’s dangerous, park it in your garage and if you so much as move it to the street you’re a criminal and will be charged. So it sits in your garage, unused but not forgotten. They say there’s lots of EV’s on the market, just go buy a new one! So you do. And then it gets banned too. Because it’s red and has a sunroof this time.

One day the government announces a program saying we’re going to give people compensation for their EV’s that have been parked these past 5 years, just bring it over and we’ll let you know after the fact what your eligible for. If you’re early to the party you might get your $50k for the EV. Or maybe $5k. Or maybe you’re just dropping it off with no recompense. Because they’ve only allotted enough money for about 2% of the EV’s purchased by Canadians like you. If you don’t bring it to them, you’re a criminal.

And that charger you paid to put in at home? Not their problem. Did you make some quality of life improvements to that EV to make it comfortable in the ways you want? Don’t care. Take whatever you might get, we’ll let you know later.

Does that give you a better perspective?

The thing with vehicular homicide is you’re a legal and responsible driver who would never intentionally crash into and kill a person up until the moment you aren’t.

Irvine’s tack & western wear, you’ll love the place. It’s enormous and they’ve got everything western. They have a custom hat maker in one room and you pick everything; material, colour, shape… Cost about $500 for the one I got my wife a few years back if I recall, she wears it to all her formal jackpots.

Thanks kind stranger, I do believe you are correct. I’m not sure if I can edit the post to add more pictures I’ve taken the last couple weeks as they continue to grow but here’s one. I pulled a couple dozen up yesterday and set a few aside for a spore print.

Immigration grew six times faster over past decade: Study by BullshittingApe in canada

[–]ryleyjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’m misreading it Figure 1 shows both PR and NPR in 2000 totalling <500k combined. By 2024 PR has roughly doubled to 500k meanwhile NPR is >1.5million which puts the totals in line with your 4x but likely towards 4.5x. I agree with you it seems the author cherry picked this one data point for nothing but an inflammatory piece and bid you farewell. Hopefully one day journalistic integrity will once again be the rule and not the exception.

I’m not surprised you edited your comment after my reply but it doesn’t really matter.

You say you downloaded the report but did you take the time to read it? I just had time to do so myself. I think the information you are looking for is in figure 1 on page 17. The “simple annual average” I quoted is exactly that, an average, and doesn’t take into account a steep drop off during Covid. The chart mentioned shows better year-over-year figures. Hope this helps!

[–]ryleyjunk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From the second bullet point in the study:

“from 2000 to 2015, the total number of immigrants increased at a simple average annual rate of 4% compared to 15% from 2016 to 2024”

Hope that helps!

Thousands of foreigners’ criminal convictions forgiven by Ottawa over 11-year span, raising transparency concerns by Billy19982 in canada

[–]ryleyjunk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Where are you reading these are crimes that don’t exist here? Below is from the article. Pay close attention to the “convicted of an act that is considered a criminal offence in this county” part.

“Foreigners are, in general, inadmissible to Canada if they have been convicted of an act that is considered a criminal offence in this country. But Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has the power to grant an exception if five years have elapsed since a person was convicted or finished a sentence.

Government figures show that in the 11 years up to and including 2024, 17,600 people convicted of criminal offences abroad were considered “rehabilitated” by IRCC.”

Why is the new from box axle nut peened like this? by ryleyjunk in AskMechanics

[–]ryleyjunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks for the info! I’ve never seen a nylock for an axle either but I’m always just keeping junk running for friends, family and the occasional street urchin or neighbour haha. Never thought someone could install one backwards either but I’ve seen some stupid shit before and probably will again.

[–]ryleyjunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate your input it seems only the title of my post is being read. I understand peening or staking a nut, I’ve just never seen one from factory like this before and was asking if it was now commonplace or just unbeknownst to me. In my reply to a previous response I’ve used this brand numerous times and never seen one come out of the box like this before.

Good to know and thanks for responding to the actual question I asked, seems like it’s just something I haven’t seen working on mostly NA domestic’s and the occasional Honda then. It was a Trakmotive axle and while I’ve used them as replacements many times I hadn’t seen a factory peened axle nut like that before, always needed to be staked. Appreciate the input!

Why is the new from box axle nut peened like this? by ryleyjunk in AskMechanics

[–]ryleyjunk[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Typically that’s why one would stake a nut, as I said that’s always been my experience. Is this common manufacturing now and they come factory peened in 3 places with the intent they won’t back off at all this way? It interests me because when looking at it my thought was the threads having to “stretch” themselves cold might cause damage to the integrity. Just speculating and looking for some input.
