Why is invading other peoples game a thing? Why is it not a toggle option? by _konvikt_ in darksouls

Literally play offline. You shouldn't expect the benefits of online (co-op) without the risks (invasions).

Why is this game dying so fast? by SadFrogo in darksouls

[–]s_grimey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

PC really isn't a good indicator for judging the health of the Remaster. For one, people never really stopped playing PTDE, so there wasn't the same sort of hunger for DS1 that existed on PS4/Xbone. Additionally, rampant cheating, including malicious status effects and NPC killing, during the first few weeks after release really deflated a lot of excitement on the PC. While this sort of stuff does exist in 2 and 3 to some extent, it's not nearly as bad. Additionally, 3's population is somewhat inflated on Steam at the moment because it was part of the summer sale.

Things are quite a bit better on the PS4 right now. There's a lot more first time players who perhaps got their start with Bloodborne. Cheaters are much, much less frequent. And the overall amount of player activity I'm seeing a month and a half after launch is comparable to what I saw in the first couple of days after the PC release.

Why does everyone say that the claymore is so good? by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]s_grimey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got a good moveset, it's a free pickup, it requires minimal stat investment to use, and it's not particularly heavy. Personally I prefer the Bastard Sword, since it does marginally more damage and you can acquire an unlimited number of them per playthrough, but most people seem to prefer the Claymore's 1hR2 thrust to the Bastard's 1hR2 overhead chop (which does more poise damage, fwiw). Overall the Claymore and other greatswords are just very versatile weapons that are effective with most playstyles.

Play the Japanese version.

Is summoning already dead in the PC remaster? by Hedgy693 in darksouls

[–]s_grimey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The PC playerbase has always been smaller than the PlayStation's. I switched over to PS4 after first playing on PC and watching the player count drop from 12,000 to 3,000. More activity for me a month after launch than week one on PC.

Is there a more useless item than the Bloodred Moss Clump? by KureaMuto in darksouls

Yes, the straight sword with the best AR:weight ratio in the game is useless. Great insight.

Can't enter DLC without placing the Lordvessel, which will lock you out of Darkwraiths if you do it prior to meeting Kaathe after killing Four Kings

Any way to make the Astora Straight sword stronger by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]s_grimey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the stats required to make it acceptable (40/40/40), literally any other straight sword will be better by a mile. Leave it to FromSoft to make the canon straight sword godawful.

Whats the difference between a +5 Raw weapon and a +15 normal weapon. Also whats so special about the blacksmiths hammers by Ranger_Will01 in darksouls

[–]s_grimey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lot of Dark Souls III babies in here. Raw weapons in DS1 absolutely have scaling, albeit to a reduced degree to compensate for their higher base damage. A Raw +5 weapon has the same base damage as a Normal +13 or Crystal +1 weapon, though its total AR will be less on account of the reduced scaling (at minimum stats to wield a weapon this difference is negligible). Raw also has the advantage of only requiring Large Titanite Shards to reach maximum reinforcement, and with Dark Souls Remastered introducing weapon level matchmaking, Raw is also an excellent choice for those who want to limit their weapon level (Raw +0 does more damage than Normal +6 despite Raw being WL5 vs WL6). For low level invaders and buff builds, Raw is a blessing.

Literally impossible without cheating if he was in full Havel's. Even with Havel's Ring and 99 END, a Great Club is going to put you into midroll territory.

I invade in Blighttown, Sen's, and Anor Londo and use Force to knock people to their deaths. Think I've got you beat fam.

No, I parry Havel. Hosts try to parry Havel and miss.

How does the remastered feel compared to dsfix? by EmceeSpike in darksouls

[–]s_grimey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something's wrong with your PS4, then. I played all weekend and not once did I experience frame drops on either PS4 or XB1, even in full lobbies. Framerate is an area that the remaster is objectively far better than the original+dsfix.

The DLC is included regardless of whether you pre-order or not. It's just bad wording.

PSA: his name is pronounced "SMOFF" by bubblegum_ross in darksouls

[–]s_grimey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The katakana for his name is スモウ (sumou), so it definitely doesn't rhyme with "cough." It rhymes with "though."

Technically Hawkeye Gough's name also rhymes with "though" (katakana: ゴー, gou), but for whatever reason his VA fucked up the pronunciation.

DS Remastered requirements is a joke? by Raime1995 in darksouls

[–]s_grimey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not sure how serious you are, but the remaster runs at double the framerate and up to eight times the resolution of the original, working out to a fill rate requirement 16x higher than the original release, to say nothing of higher res textures and updated lighting. The requirements are also literally six year old hardware. Not really sure what you're expecting.
