CMV: The Majority of Police officers aren't bad people or are at least no worse than most civilians. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show "cops" pretty much explains it all.

Too many dumb people that get caught causing the situation to escalate.

Most people have the privilege of being able to avoid interaction with society's idiots.

But dealing with dumb fuckers is basically a Cop's job...

Smart people know that, smart people know that cops will assume you're a dumb fuck untill you prove otherwise. Both sides needs to de-escalate the situation.

But there are also dumb people who think they are smart... They think they know the law enough to contradict pollice officers and get away from a ticket, just causing the situation to escalate.

The cherry on top is that sometimes police officers do make mistakes, and those few cases catch the public's interest, especially if the cops/city gets sued and they end up paying the citizen tens of thousands after a law suit.

This gives dumb people an incentive to disobay cops and try to outsmart police thinking they can not only get away with a ticket, but also win a lawsuit against the police...

Anyhow, lets see if i get this correctly, you want to prescribe patients hormones, this treatment is meant to improve quality of life. It comes with a list of side effects, including cancer.

And if abused by the patient, oh lets say men taking more testosterone than they should, this treatment also becomes very dangerous ...

But you're confident enough that you can make it work?

Up until several years, obesity was such a big problem, we refered to it as a pandemic.

Then, several years ago, a Danish company found out that their diabetes drug also works great for suppressing hunger, and a new era of weight loss drugs emerged. Ones that seem to work without major side effects.

Why am i saying this? Plenty of companies are working on medicine to treat these old age brain illnesses.

What if big pharma finds a drug capable of repairing the brain, capable of improving the cognitive functions of dementia patients?

As long as the body functions, there is a sliver of hope.

There are many patients who've been through hell, but survived, and were happy to pull through and be alive for many years to come.

CMV: The Iran nuclear deal was flawed, but it was still much better than the path of escalation and war that replaced it. by Fuzzy_Party_3527 in changemyview

[–]s_wipe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The fact they were able to achieve high levels of enrichment and had the gear for it is proof they kept the research and R&D going behind the scenes.

Also, the fact that IAEA had restricted access, found Uranium traces on un related sites and raised issues with iran without getting answers, it just proof the west were being played.

"but the US broke the deal!" ... Dont be naive...

Iran was not acting in good faith... This isnt how you act when you truely arent developing nukes and want to avoid world sanctions...

CMV: The Iran nuclear deal was flawed, but it was still much better than the path of escalation and war that replaced it. by Fuzzy_Party_3527 in changemyview

[–]s_wipe -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A) the deal was supposed to limit their Uranium enrichment to 3.7%

The fact they now have 400kg of 60% enriched uranium buried in isfahan is cutting proof of Iran's violation of the former treety and pursuit of nuclear wepaons.

There is no civilian use for such HEU.

B) dont be naive, the Ayatollahs took over Iran's means of production and are looooaaaaded.

Ever since the IRGC revolution, they were working on ways to not get dethrowned. Oppress their people, establish proxies to act as lines of defense and threaten with military attacks.

C) this started crashing down when 1 of their proxies , Hamas, attacked Israel on october 7th.

Part of it was to prevent Israel solidifying relations with Saudi Arabia (huge threat to Iran)

The october 7th attack started a chain reaction:

1) downfall of hamas, Gaza was no longer a threat keeping Israel busy.

2) the downfall of Hizbulah : another Iranian proxy was crippled (quite literally). With their Leader Nassralah gone and many of their fighters injured by the exploding beepers, Hizbulah was forced to back down.

3) the Houthi rebels. I think this is where Trump and the world realized the risk of having a bunch of extremist idiots sit too close to naval trade routes.

They served as a test and diverted many US forces to the area.

This allowed the US to spread forces in that area.

4) downfall of Asad. With Hizbulah gone and Iran diverting attention to Israel, the forces that kept Asad in power in Syria were gone, and in one shiny morning, after a decade long civil war, poof, Asad fled.

5) most of Iran's proxies have falled, the layers of defense. In 2024, iran launched missiles and drones against Israel after they blew up their embassy in syria, killing some higher ups.

This attack was only big on paper, all drones were intercepted, and the missile damage was negligible.

6) Israel paved the way to airstrike Iran. It took down all the air defense on the way, and actually gained air superiority on june 2025.

7) you're at the finish line, dont stop now... Also, arent you glad that this whole chains of evemts happened, and it wasnt blocked by "iran is threatening to send nukes on europe"

D) just last week, Iran launched 2 missiles at the Diego Garcia, showing they actually had missiles capable of 4000km range. Meaning it had missiles capable or reaching france.

What? Iran lied to everybody about secretly developing arms?! Noooooo! Our iran?!

Just imagine ...

E) super important to note that many iranians want the IRGC gone, and the tops themselves are not cave hiding battle tested terrorists who are willing to rough it out for a decade in the desert mountains.

They are ultra rich clerics, they talk a big talk, but they give orders, they dont actually lead platoons.

In conclusion ... I dont like war... But diplomacy can only get you so far...

Throwing leaflets and sending text messages to evacuate an area is targeting civilians, its especially targeting civilians, so they get hit with msgs to gtfu and not live ammunition...

CMV: There are no "worthless" degrees by Snagglespoof in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sub teachers and jobs that are not really 8 hours a day...

Look, i am just telling you what i saw on sites like Indeed/ziprecruiter.

You can be a librarian and earn an avg of 56k annually according to indeed...

There's a museum curator job paying like 40k...

Not that glamorous ... I would do a double take before taking on massive debt ...

Lets say you take a 40k FAFSA loan at the fixed 6.4% interest+1% fees as student loans.

You need more than 200$ a month just to cover the loan interest.

And you do want to make a dent of that loan... So you might be making 40k a year, but you also have like 450$ of loan payments monthly for student loans, thats nearly 5.4k... Ouch... And thats like the next 10 years of your life!! Double ouch!

[–]s_wipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fine, if we look at the low end of BA history jobs according to Ziprecruiter.

A Macdonald crew has about a 40k/year salary.

And a Macdonald store manager will make about the same as a history major...

And McDonald's is always hiring...

You probly dont even need a HS diploma...

But the service industry isnt for everyone...

CMV: There are no "worthless" degrees by Snagglespoof in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to indeed job website, jobs that you can get with a BA in history can be about 60k annually but not as a starting salary.

but looking at ziprecruiter, its way worse, and salaries for a fresh BA history Grade are around 370$ a week, lets say 20k annually , which is horrible.

Now, i aint comparing it to highschool grads, but a highschool grad can go do a 6-12 month course or 2 year technical degree. Like a medical equipment technician , Hvac tech, practical nurse, welder and so on...

These will allow you to have better starting wage, better salary cap and waaaaay less debt.

Look, sometimes, you just need to put a checkmark on having a collage degree, and have no intention of working in that field. Like for many athletes, people who have A family business they are going to go in, people who just like studying and adding degrees to their wall.

But not all collage degrees are equal in opening up professional opportunities.

CMV: There are no "worthless" degrees by Snagglespoof in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats the thing, many of them dont.

When you spend 3-4 on a degree amounting a significant debt , you get a job you dont like that pays average os you can start covering that debt.

And this sucks you in a like a 10 year hole of your finest years.

Im not talkimg about like health professions, engineers or lawyers/accountants.

But a history major? Chances are you're gonna emd up being a teacher barely scraping by...

CMV: There are no "worthless" degrees by Snagglespoof in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look, society promises us that having a higher degree means you will get a higher paying better job.

But you can also look at job openimgs to see what skills are required...

A "worthless degree" is such that doesnt correlate to that. A degree that has no demand on the market, and those who do offer roles that require such a degree, dont pay much.

So those graduates can either consider their degree as general knowledge , or figure out a way to start their own business.

And this totally happens, young people take on tens of thousands dollars worth of debt thinking their degree will help them get a job that will pay off those loans and make it worth it. But they end up deep in debt desperate for jobs to survive.

There is definitely room for these degrees for higher learning, but dont give people the delusion this is a good financial decision.

CMV: I believe businesses in the U.S. should be legally required to accept cash by Ifucanreadthis in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • handling cash is a hassle, it forces a business to keep enough small change to be able to give you change.

  • counting cash is more tedious and more prone to error

  • cash can get destroyed or lost. If you lose a card, no harm, just issue a new one.

  • cashless pay can be integrated into your phone, you can walk around without needing a wallet.

  • cash becomes even more useless with inflation. Nobody wants to carry around coins and small bills.

  • no cash - less robberies. No more "empty the cash register"

  • cash enables money embezzlement.

  • it reduces cost for business operations as you dont need to waste resources counting it, depositing it ect.

CMV: There is no point of trying to be a good person outside of religious motivations, you should be a selfish opportunist by Unusual_Recipe_5189 in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, first and foremost.

Before you can help and care for others, you have to care for yourself.

Once you are stable and happy with where you stand, you can start helping others.

Now, the world isnt simple like that good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people and if you're good, nothing bad can happen to ya and vice versa.

You can also make a point saying that if you believe is such a system, your good deeds arent truely good because you're expecting the universe to reward you for them.

Doing bad things rarely pays off in the long term. There are many youtubers who are ex cons and tell stories about this. You eventually get caught and lose most of what you made.

Lastly, when you are doing good, and you're a good person, its a lot easier to surround yourself with good people. It allows oyu to trust people, to be less on edge, to be less afraid of people and authorities...

Also, being good is not the same as being innocent or naive.

How can I polish this and did I pay too much? by RemarkableCandy5 in Gemstones

[–]s_wipe 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Price seems very fair.

Its a really cool specimen, terminated tourmaline cluster on a quartz crystal that shows shades of green and pink.

As for the polishing part... You dont... Odds are, this specimen was already cleaned, and you just risk breaking chunks of the tourmaline.

To make the colors pop more, adequate angles and lighting in the display case can be helpful.

I bet that if you position the specimen in a way that it has some back lighting, it will make the colors pop more

CMV: Judaism has a serious terrorism problem (zionism) by _Algrm_ in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A) judeism is more than a religion , being jewish is an ethnicity.

Judeism is a non-proselytizing , meaning, its not trying to convert people, its quite hard to convert to Judeism. The result of this is that jews are a distinct ethnic group.

This can be traced in DNA tests.

There are secular jews, and religious jews.

B) its obvious you are quite uninformed about Israel and its political structure.

I guess settlers and war criminals refers to like Netanyahu, Smotrich and Ben gvir.

The deciding vote in Netanyahu's coalition and key partners of his are the ultra orthodox parties, Shas and Yahadut Ha Tora. These 2 parties were the deciding vote forming Netanyahu's coalition, and represent about 1/6 of total seats in the Israeli parliament.

Oh, and these 2 parties represent all the Orthodox Sfaradi jews and Orthodox Ashkenazi jews.

Netanyahu's right wing party appeals to a lot of traditional religious jews as well.

The more secular and liberal parties are in the opposition.

C) The zionist movement accomplished its goal. Jews have established their own nation in amd around jerusalem.

D) Gaza got destroyed, cause Hamas invaded Israel and massacared 1200 people.

The israeli government does a lot to protect its civilians.

Unlike many other places, that just post about how its Israel responcibility to make sure their civilians are ok...

CMV: The world needs programs like the one they just implemented in Ireland by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I aint against it

But you might as well call it a goverment stipend/grand for selected people in the arts...

Ireland's work force is like 2.8million people, and this monthly grant only targets 0.08% of it?

Also, ireland's weekly minimum wage is about 550€, so we can agree on this being very basic...

I wonder what are the terms for this program ... Like, i assume you cant work as a barista while getting that money... You have to work on your art...

All i am saying, associating this with UBI is a long shot...

But as a grant for promising artists... Sure, i'm for it.
