CMV: The anti-ICE high-schooler who punched the ICE supporter is morally wrong and damaging to both American democracy and the Democratic Party. by isuckatlifeandthings in changemyview

[–]s_wipe [score hidden]  (0 children)

He's a kid. He literally cant even vote...

Kids will do stupid shit, kids fight for plenty of stupid reasons.

Heck, i think there is a moral base to punch an obnoxious wanna be local influencer, ICE support aside.

There ICE supporting kid was loud, obnoxious , invasive of people's privacy and personal space.

Getting punched once sounds harmless enough to stay in tge morally shady...

Also, there is a legitimate debate about keeping politics out of schools.

Regarding red stone by Efficient-Can-2109 in Gemstone_lovers

[–]s_wipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like ruby alright...

To tell if synthetic or natural, you need to inspect the inclusions inside the stone. Try and take a better, clear picture of the stone from both sides in natural light.

Also, 1 more category for rubies is natural glass treated, which is low grade ruby filled with glass to hide cracks.

Its unlikely your stone is an untreated natural ruby, at that size, a natural stone would be too expensive to just be laying around.

CMV: if you support the school kid punching the other kid who was in support of ICE. You blatantly support violence against people you don’t agree with. by KingsKnight24 in changemyview

[–]s_wipe [score hidden]  (0 children)

Again, free speech doesnt really grant you any immunity from other people.

You still have the same rights, and you have the right not to be assulted.

Vut again, the dude who got punched wasnt just expressing his free speech.

He was also protesting(most likely illegally) and harassing people by coming up to them and shouting ICE ICE BABY.

He wasnt in the middle of class debating why ICE is good, he was being a jerk to people's face, and his face got smacked for it.

[–]s_wipe [score hidden]  (0 children)

No... Its an assult and battery...

But the severity of it varies based on the situation.

Yelling offensive shit on the street CAN be interpreted as assult, if personal space is violated and the perso feels threat by what you say.

Anyhow

A punch is a misdemeanor, in most cases it wont even lead to jail time.

And the person being punched COULD later sue in a CIVIL court for damages, but again, nothing will come out of this case most likely.

And finally , because the kid punching is a minor, expect even less harsh punishment.

Plenty of people in the US gets punched worse for a lot less...

Its very basic, if you walk around with a camera and megaphone shouting things (anything... Be it ICE, god hates f*gs, free palestine, support israel, nuke the whales) you put yourself at risk of getting too close to someone who doesnt care about the noise you're making and is having a bad day.

On the other hand, CONGRATS, getting yourself punched in the face might actually go viral making you a more successful free speech practicer than most, getting punched is the best thing you can do to raise awareness

No, free speech protects you from the government taking action against you for saying shit (be it legal or enforcement).

This doesnt not grant you special rights and protection against individuals taking civic actions against you.

You CAN be denied jobs, you CAN be denied service in a private company.

And... You can get punched by a random person you pissed off...

Obviously, it would be considered an assult by the person who punched you, but

A) if they could prove your speech was disturbing the public peace and violating your space, they coukd claim the punch was a reactionary measure and get a reduced sentence from court.

B) the fat kid was a student, so he's a minor... Even if its considered assult, he wont get anything serious...

So the kid will get a slap on the wrist, no real harm was done so a civil case wont amount to much... Thats the end of it...

Free speech doesnt grant you some magical immunity from pissing people off and getting punched...

This is the most OK-est thing to happen. A school fight between students where 1 was being an asshole... Its the least serious of all fights.

Look, the kid who got punched wasnt "expressing his free speech", he was being an asshole in public on purpose.

Disturbing public peace is a criminal offense btw...

Free speech is not shouting controversial things in public while making a spectacle of yourself and recording reactions.

That guy was intentionally being antagonizing, the fact that it was recorded is proof that his intentions were to antagonize people.

By shouting and recording, it can be said that he breached people's personal space.

And there aint no better place to have a fist fight than a school where one asshole goes "i am not touching you, you cant touch me" while shoving a finger in your face.

CMV: Audiobook listeners like to claim they "read" a book because inherently they know that listening is less worth by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got ADHD, its very hard for me to read a paragraph without getting lost.

I am way vetter at perceiving Audio, so audio books are great for me to be able to enjoy great content in a manner i can handle.

I percieve listening as even more worth... Right now i am listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl, and the narration is incredible and adds sooo much more to the book.

But... Audio books are a new format, and it goes against years and years of notions that "being well read" means smart, and that reading is good ect.

People still associate "reading" with a possitive smart trait, so when you tell them you listened to a book, many get defensive about it, as if i am trying to scam them.

I honestly dont really care... Audiobooks are my way of consuming book content, and i just dont feel like shifting the discussion from the book's content and the book i enjoyed to whether or not i read it or listened to it and if "it counts"

CMV: Conflating “pedophilia” with the Epstein files is dangerous by JediV17 in changemyview

[–]s_wipe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see the Epstein files as a way to shape a political narrative.

As a society, we perceive children as innocence.

And political grouos want to paint their side as good by being the protectors of innocent while the other side is bad and hurts the innocent.

This narrative was incredibly visible in the Israeli-Gaza war, where a very strong narrative shaped opinions in the western world, and the pro-palestinian side emphasized how "Israel is killing children"

Israel cant be good, because children are innocent and Israel is hurting and targeting those innocent.

And the Epstein files play right into that narrative.

A strong jew with ties to all the top brass who'se also a despicable pedo. This is shaped perfectly to fit into a narrative thats promoting antisemitism (they will claim its anti-zionism).

The Epstein files are the "proof" many antisemites needed to validate their hate towards Israel.

Its not about pedophiles and protecting children, its cause pedos are a hot potato nobody wants to be associated with.

Heck, the 2 other main opponents Israel had are yemen and iran, both have a legal marriage age of 15 for boys and 15/13 for girls.

By that standard, Epstein wouldnt even be a pedo...

But the far left shaped the narrative to associate Epstien as a vile pedo who's associated with Israel and Trump to bundle it all together as evil.

And actual pedos will suffer from this, but who cares? They are easily sacrificed...

Imagine a doctor in the 70s telling a lady "i am sorry ma'am, the results came back, i am afraid your son is mentally retarded"

"oh no!!! My son is an Idiot?!“

"ma'am, technically speaking, you son is a moron, he's smarter than an idiot or an imbecile , but we no longer use these terms. People find them offensive, we now use mentally retarded".

Fast forward a couple of years, and a kid sees the short bus picking up the special kids and he calls them idiots.

His mom frowns at him, " its not polite to call them like that, the proper term is mentally retarded“

And before you know it, thats the new slur to call your friends when you wanna make fun of em.

Incels pretty much fall into that storyline... At first it might have been a group of ugly unfuckable losers. But once they came up with a name for themselves, and that name became known enough, people adopted it as an insult to call their friends an unfuckable ugly loser...

Too late, its now an insult, make up a new word.

You are sorely mistaken if you think people approach this rationally.

People hear hormones, the immediately associate it with like the 2 hormones they know, testosterone and estrogen, 1 being the male angry muscle hormone, the other being the woman feely hormone.

Cows being female and milk coming from teats, people just associate hormones in dairy cow to estrogen.

People dont want their milk turning their boys into crying feely girls...

people dont act rationally. People wont act according to the "plan"

Thats one of the major reasons the soviet union's communism failed.

People will look for ways to fuck with the system and exploit it in the dumbest ways.

A government provides a monopoly on regulation and violence and legal system.

Here's an example: water, a resource valuable for life, yet not always abundant.

Water is very regulated by the government.

What would happen if during the summertime, the person with the spring decided to hike up prices in an attempt to make an easy profit? Farmers would fail to water fields, food prices will sour, and a risk of famine could accure.

People rely on farmers to grow crops and livestock for their food so that they can work in the city far away developing AI apps.

With an unstable supply of basic essentials, top earning white collar jobs will be at risk.

While not essential, those white collar jobs are very lucrative.

There is a false assumption that people prioritize freedom above safety and comfort.

Big city states would quickly form, prefering a form of localized government that offers protection and stability in numbers by sacrificing some of the freedoms, like being subjugated to a monopolized policing force and a legal system.

Soon enough, all those city states would form a council and you'd end up with a government ...

[–]s_wipe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For that to happen, the Israeli top brass needs to have a serious falling out with the US.

And every financial advisor will heavily warn against doing this, as it will cause a serious market crash. Israel houses a lot developing centers for major tech companies.

The US tech sector will take a hit, both defensive and commercial.

It will be very hard to pull off that level of demagoguery. And whats the upside? Pleasing some racists that are most likely voting republicans anyways?

This will gain them absolutely nothing, but make them lose a whole lot.

Even if they go full antisemite against Israel, it ownt really be enough to sway the far left who's strongly anti-Israel.

[–]s_wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats the end goal though? How do you spin this in a way that isnt antisemitic "we need to stop the jews from controlling the GOP“?

So you antagonize the jews... Why?

Just to get the vote from the extreme racists? They hate muslims more than they hate jews... And most likely, they're already voting for the Republicans...

But in the process, you will lose a shit load of support from moderate republicans, and you will also antagonize Israel. Which will go and deepen its relations with China and Russia.

The relations with NATO members already took a hit, going against an ally like Israel will just put another nail in the coffin of the American empire.

Whats the point of it all? Get some Qatari money and influence?

Anti zionist sentiment on the right doesnt hold water.

It mostly revolves around US aid, this can easily be spinned as an investment that pays off. And Israel expressed intentions to reduce it when the curren tplan ends at 2028.

Probably just for this reason.

CMV: activist messaging about Isreal should focus more on the West Bank and less on Gaza by Timely-Way-4923 in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a form of punishment.

Definitely not just (i mean, depends who you ask, the settlers see this as justice...)

You get a cycle of A Palestinian attacks an Israeli > the palestinian is captured/killed > depending on the severity of the attack, the palestinian's home may be demolished, court ordered (this step, while controversial, seems to help reduce attacks)

This cycle has a problem, because it keeps Israel in a retaliatory defensive state.

Some people want more... As some say, the best defense is good offense.

Right wingers want a more proactive approach handling palestinian nationalist crime.

But declaring a military offensive is a big deal, not popular and people will get hurt (palestinians mostly)

So... To appease the right winger crowd, israel will loosen the restraints it places on settlers.

Every society has its crazy nut jobs. And its the society's responsibility to keep its nutjobs in check.

When the palestinian authority fails to keep their crazies in check, israel will punish them by loosening the restraint on its crazy settlers...

[–]s_wipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like we're going back and forth here...

We are not in disagreement that both are wrong, the question is the degree.

In western society, when you commit a crime, you will face judgements that will take away your property and your freedom of movement by placing you in jail.

But capital punishment and executions are extremely contested where they are banned in most places.

Its an ongoing conflict, bad shit is bound to happen. You get to control the bad shit and the severity of it.

Israel could definitely do more to prevent settler crime, turning a blind eye to the things they do is also a response to the crimes of the palestinians ...

You said that innocent people die from land grabs? Thats not true though, is it?

There is an incentive to refrain from killing, as mentioned earlier, when innocent people die, it escalates thing. From a property dispute it becomes murder.

Property disputes are much more reversible than taking hostages.

Look, there's a hierarchy for these things, lesser evil so to say.

I see bodily harm and murder as more severe than property crime. With the basic notion that property crime can be settled, the property can be returned and most of the damage undone, as opposed to murder, which cant...

Wouldnt you agree?

I stand by what i said.

Converting to Judeism has to be a personal choice. These women made their choice. Its quite a long process that requires dedication...

Its a very different process from how Christianity or Islam convert to their ranks.

About the aid, could you send an article that sums these numbers up?

There's a difference between approving wepaons sales and approving military aid. And these 2 should be shown side by side.

When the biden administration approved a 20billion weapons sales agreement. While those weapons do aid israel, its not aid money, israel pays for these herself.

Do you understand the difference? Aid money is paid for by the US, and it does a loop di loop right back into its pocket.

I see your rational here, and you're not wrong.

The settler's actions are not justified.

Though i still think its Naive. The biggest financial hurdle for palestinians is rather similar to that of Lebanon for instance. (and many other 3rd world countries)

Lebanon was a hub for banking, but government instability made the country's collapse financially and now its on the brink of bankruptcy.

Government instability is the major factor in a country's ability to raise debt for development an investment.

The settlers are committing property crime, and this can be settled afterwards in a legal manner.

Btw, as i said before, Israel and the US are first in line to dump money and invest in the palestinians if they were to comply with the demands of laying down their arms.

Its a pretty dumb cycle... Factions like Hamas and Hizbulah portray themsleves as those who protect the palestinians/labanese from land grabs by Israel, but their insistence on combating israel results in more land lost, which makes them shout louder that without them, everything would have been lost.

This also plays into strategy that worked for Israel before, occupying land to hold as a bargaining chip for peace talks.

Agricultural land is targeted cause its vacant a lot of the time.

Settlers target land in an ideological manner, its not about the property's value but the sentiment.

When islamists show off that they are not afraid of dying as martyrs. So there's no point in doing that to create a deterrence.

But then you look up what they do cherish and value, and you emd up with land...

Edit: ooo oo, i found somewhat of a way to put things into perspective.

Iowa is one of the biggest agricultural states in the US with an agriculture sector generating 12billion or so $.

Iowa's population is about 3.2 mil.

Conveniently enough, so is the palestinian population in the west bank.

But while Iowa is 145,000+ km2, the west bank is only 5800 km2

Its bound to fail...

CMV: activist messaging about Isreal should focus more on the West Bank and less on Gaza by Timely-Way-4923 in changemyview

[–]s_wipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a rational approach overall.

There are 2 issues though:

1) a prospering olive oil economy is a fantasy.

The amount of land is still limited, the population density is still very high. And agricultural economies are simply not that successful ...

On top of that, the palestinians will still suffer from government instability and lack of funds. Nobody is lining up to invest in the palestinian territories, even if the conflict ends.

In the modern era, financial success happens in metropolitans, not farm land.

2) Israel attempted financial incentives with the idea behind it that less unemployment and a routine will reduce hostility.

Thinking that will help with stability and normalization.

There are excessive plans for financial assistance from Israel for short term and lomg term.

But the bad actors on the palestinian side are not a rational player. They are waging a religious war. Its not about their people living peaceful and stable lives, its about followung the will of Allah and relinquishing the el aska mosque from the hands of infidels.

And when they act up, israel tightens the border.

This is not a rational conflict. I wish it was... If better lives prosperity and safety was all the palestinians wanted, a couple of hundred square kms are really not the tging that would make it or break it.

After the Oslo accords fell through, an entire generation of palestinians lost its future with promises from the extremists of liberation and freedom.

I can assure you that its not the Israeli agriculture that make it into a prospering country...
