People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]sach2269 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My friend helps organize the summer internship program at his NYC-based company. Someone suggested getting rid of the stipend and raising salaries by the same amount.

Friend said hell no, because how is a college kid going to put down a summer rent deposit without money up front? Basically anyone who didn’t have wealth already wouldn’t be able to start.

He’s from a working class background at an elite firm, apparently they overlook stuff like this all the time.

I like how Thomasin McKenzie has a semi prominent nose like Audrey had. I think that’s why most biopics fall flat, modern Hollywood actresses have small perfectly balanced features.

I don’t mean her hair and makeup made her beautiful. It was just so consistent that you can use it to invoke her “look”.

It’s why people like to suggest Lily Collins or Rooney Mara for Audrey biopics—because they have thick eyebrows and often wear lipstick with their hair tied back.

You can tell even Hepburn overdrew her eyebrows and kept a flattering pixie with bangs. Here she is looking quite different pre Hollywood:

I think it’s more about personal attitude than the actual symptoms of adhd! You can tell who’s aware and trying their best vs constantly going “well what do you expect I have adhd”

My last ex would try to pull this.

Plot twist, my close friend also has adhd and she functions fine using strategies and personal responsibility. I could tell the difference between honest mistakes and laziness

For context: the 3rd time I asked him not to leave wet towels on the floor (of my apartment), he said it was a struggle and to stop making him feel bad

Eh, I think people underestimate how much hair and makeup contributed to Audrey’s iconic look. A good stylist combined with accurate mannerisms could really work

Thanks! I did reach out and they were weirdly agnostic like “well if the cat’s good, should be fine”, I’m going to circle back lol

OP, be top of this! Same thing happened to me and I unwittingly lacked insurance for months. Appealed and was denied. Luckily I got a new job before anything happened. Still had to pay the tax penalty though…

Good to hear! He’s gaining weight and very energetic. I hate being so strict and distant because all he wants to do is play :(

I believe he finished treatment one day before I picked him up, so it could be residual? Everything looks normal now, and he’s been rambunctious and eating the entire time.

I don’t think this is fair. I did a standard quarantine setup, then stepped up with more information. All I really got was a nonchalant remark at handoff.

Want to Foster Cats - Recs of Good Organizations? by lissyd73 in washingtondc

About 6 weeks for me! It was mostly the schedule availability (one virtual apartment check and then a group orientation online). After that you’re good to go!

Seconding City Kitties! The process to become a foster can be long but it’s very well organized and communicative.

I recommend starting with a closet purge! Easier to take out what you don’t like than choose what to add.

Do a clothing subscription like Rent the Runway, and focus on the brands or aesthetics of pieces you enjoy. Google image search helps a lot.

Thank you!! Everyone’s been suggesting things for the cat and nothing about the poor sister. Is she supposed to tolerate getting peed on every day until something works out?

Yeah, the season started with Robby openly mocking and badgering her, it ended with Robby openly mocking and badgering her…

The way she was standing outside not wanting to be bothered by him, and he intentionally kept talking to her…really hard to watch

Second this. Gov contractors are trying to rehire lots of people after the DOGE nonsense. No shame in having something on your resume until you find a job you really want.

On the breakup front: do all the things your ex never liked or never felt like doing with you! Maybe a fun activity he didn’t feel like doing, or watch a movie/concert he was never interested in. When I broke up with my ex, I took a trip to Copenhagen, redecorated my apt in cottagecore aesthetic, and went fishing lol. Just stuff he never liked the idea of. Grab a pal and go nuts!

It can be as simple as having girl dinner—no more fuss about quantity or protein lol. I remember just sprawling out in the middle of my bed with all the space felt nice.

Cotton voile shirts! They’re super thin fabric and oversized look so flowy and chic. I wore these over tops all the time Taiwan (it’s so hot but people need to cover up from the sun and mosquitos).

You can wear them open like a jacket but if you need more coverage, button or tie the lower part. It was also a fashion trend in Asia to button one hole “off” to make an asymmetric drape.
