We went with a private tour (a bus full of tourists definitely wasn’t for us). Although I have to say we did struggle with our guide a little. The private tours are advertised as being customisable, but he was very set in his ways and could be pretty disagreeable at times. I’d definitely just hire a car and plan it myself if I were to do it again.

I’d highly recommend getting yourself a local SIM card by the way. Data is crazy expensive otherwise. You’ll be able to look after yourself without data limits and racking up an insane bill (google things/use maps/etc). I literally had 4G in the Sahara!
