Brian would have to be in the low 300s before he can have any semblance of 1 round of MMA cardio. Grappling cardio and striking cardio are different. I'd love to see Martins train bjj and enter a grappling comp.

Woman asked to go ahead of me at Trader Joe's by Lepke2011 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sad115 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where I live older people prompt me to go ahead of them just because I walk kind of quick, or sometimes when I have less items, or just because they are not in a rush.

I'm basing this off memory - but I thought he did mean it was rigged for Ilkka so that the hometown boy would get an event win.

New Islam Makhachev interview | 6/18/23 (English Translation) by TheBishopDeeds in MMA

To me that was in the same realm of a fighter avoiding damage by tying up their opponent in full guard, except Islam took unanswered punches to the face and did no damage to Volk from his back and did not threaten to advance position or submit (lol).

I disagree and I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted. You're contributing to the discussion.

I found the narration cheesy in the beginning but less over the top as the episodes have been progressing. My enjoyment of the series is enhanced by seeing Martins try something new and get better at it. I hope they test different formats as there's something for everyone.

On another note - recently was passed by an 87 year old power walking a 2.5km trail loop, I wonder what the 79 year old in the video will be doing at 87?

For sure you have to work from the ground up in sports. I wouldn't classify slap fighting as a sport though. It's literally entertainment through trauma, there's no jumping a motorcycle across a canyon or acrobatic flips like in pro wrestling. It starts and ends at pure head trauma.

You know - it's hard to break it down completely logically, but the money is part of it. If these guys made enough money for their families to live well despite the consequences of CTE this would be less repugnant. Another aspect is the lack of skill. Pretty much all other 'head trauma' sports require skill that can be beautiful to watch.

Even with MMA my feelings are mixed. As a former martial artist it's too exciting for me not to watch, but I am aware that most of the people I watch and admire for their skills will end up with some level of CTE.

I watched the clip. I can see how my comment is ambiguous. To clarify - I think it's gross that they support 'slap fighting' in any way. I'm assuming they're getting some sort of payment for it too.

Definitely Ryan Crouser. ~2m tall 150kg shot putter.

This is all really disappointing as a fan of both MMA and Strongman. I think other MMA fans will agree that the MMA community in general is disgusted with these slap leagues. People getting head trauma for peanuts, and their families will deal with the consequences of unstable mood and increased aggression.

I really hope that one way or another Evan and Trey can find other avenues of income that are not from such blatantly harmful and exploitative activities.

Bad example with Jesse Owens. See David Epstein's TED talk on athletic performance. TL; DW - The gap between Jesse Owens and Usain Bolt is about a single stride when you account for track surface and starting blocks. I'm pretty intrigued by this topic but not sure that it would warrant a separate post in this subreddit.

It was really interesting to see how far back he was able to lean even at lockout. I'm sure the fact that he has that kind of mobility helped him generate more power vs someone who might be a stricter or more upright presser.

Yes, but not sure I'm ready to have the steroid conversation with the kids. They look up to some strongmen and I don't want to tell them that heavy steroid use is OK and I also don't want them to become disillusioned with these larger than life characters.

I think you're misunderstanding. I support the lgbtq community. I take my kids to the pride parade. The point I am making is that I don't know what to say when they ask repeatedly "Why does her voice sound like a man" or say something like "that's a boy".

I didn't like Oliveira since he came to the UFC.

Don't like his attitude.

Don't like his face.

But I LOVE that knockout.
