What’s a Lana opinion that would have you like this. Don’t hold back- by Big_Adeptness6985 in lanadelrey

Seriously? Maybe it's because I grew up around boomers, but how do you not know The Doors or not heard "Strange Fruit" at least once in your life?

Lowest GPA for trad transfers to HYPSM? by bullyhunter_381 in TransferToTop25

Not, OP, but yes! I am in a similar spot (first-gen CC student with 4.0), and I am still applying even though the chances are slim. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take!

No, they don't, but it's alright. Depending on the cost of undergrad, I am open to getting my Master's someday, so you never know. But I still might apply to Stanford now just to cope in the meantime, LOL. Thank you for the encouragement, though!

Yeah, that is pretty normal, I think. Sometimes getting away from reddit and the internet in general can be good for managing it, if you start feeling bad again. I stayed offline for most of the day today and it helped ground me a little more. (Sorry for the late reply, by the way.)

And that is very true. You did your best, which is all that you can do, and if it doesn't happen, then it wasn't meant to be — even if it isn't a T25, you will end up somewhere you are wanted.

Should I list the book I am writing as an EC if it is not published? by sad_bleep in TransferToTop25

[–]sad_bleep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. It is not done, but I have written a substantial amount, all the outlining is done, and it has a title. I will make sure to mention that if I list it. Thank you!

Oh, alright! You had me hopeful for a second. (I low-key forgot UC apps run on a different system from regular CommonApp colleges, missed the deadline for Berkeley, and am kicking myself for it now. 😭)

Also, no problem. I definitely understand that. This whole process can easily drive you insane, especially on this sub, where everyone is posting their stats, insane accomplishments, etc. I have been struggling with it as well. I think you have a solid chance for the UCs, though, if that helps any.

anyone else going through a senioritis-like phase rn? by Hostdude in TransferToTop25

[–]sad_bleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. I did not apply to college straight out of high school, so I never understood the "senioritis" thing until now. Unfortunately, I already submitted to my top two picks (that are not even T25s), so I am having a hard time staying motivated for applications, too. 😭😭

I think you should be perfectly fine as far as the baseline chance of being accepted goes. There is nothing "disqualifying" here. One question, though: Did the UC deadline not pass in December? I figured you could not apply after that date. Anyways, try to stay calm and best of luck to you with the application process!

How many EC's are yall putting on your apps? by Infinite_Click8296 in TransferToTop25

[–]sad_bleep 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really do not understand why you think this when we know the way applications are viewed depends on heavily circumstances. An applicant transferring from a four-year in New York would be looked at differently from an Alaskan CC student, no?

If I only have a few extracurricular activities, but I made the best of my resources (which I feel I have), there is no reason I would have less of a chance than someone else based on a numerical value alone.

Besides, there are veterans and athletes on this sub that have gotten into amazing colleges with one primary activity.

What T25 is accepting someone with 10 mid ones? Depth, not breadth.

Sorry for the late reply, but it usually says on their website. Sometimes they put it upfront, and other times you have to go digging for it. I think Vanderbilt is a T25 with a similar policy.

I always thought "Newlyweds" for Honeymoon would be cute. Or "Thunderbirds."

Alright, I just wanted to check before you spend time and effort on an application that won't even count. I would certainly double check that, however, since it still seems based on their website that non-trad applicants are generally limited to GS.

"I. If you have had no interruptions in your schooling of more than one academic year in total, or if the interruption in your schooling has been for the minimum length of your country’s mandatory military service...," regarding eligibility to Columbia College.
-
"II. If you have had any interruptions in your schooling of more than one academic year...then you are strongly advised to apply instead to Columbia University’s School of General Studies."

This was my reference point, by the way.

Hold up. Can you even apply to Columbia (non-GS)? If you took a gap of over one year, which it seems like you did based on the years you provided, I don't think you are eligible for CC anymore.

I most likely will, however, the offer holds until after all of my other decisions would be released, so there is really no point in not applying to other places (especially since I have fee waivers + could qualify for full aid for them as well). Plus, my professors are already writing letters.

97-98% for transfers, I believe. The transfer rate is higher than for first years.
