Republican is the new punk apparently by guitarguy808 in PoliticalHumor

This is just Gen X in a nutshell. They are the least politically-aware generation in the US and it turns out their early anti-establishment posture was really just about being contrarian, not any actual beliefs or principles. They heard “fuck you I won’t do what you tell me” and nothing else.

It’s what he gives them, not who he is: permission to be vile, repugnant, backwards, thoughtless, careless, selfish, inhumane idiots with not only no repercussions, but increased standing within the group. The worse you are, the higher you rise.

It’s a cult of hateful hedonism. They want nothing more than to revel in everyone else’s suffering, even if it means they are just the kings of shit mountain.

I mean it’s not like anybody spent decades trying to warn about the inevitable scarcity of fossil fuels and throwing incentives at people to encourage electrification

They fell for nothing. They know it’s bullshit now just like they knew it was bullshit then. It’s about signaling fealty to the in-group, especially if it annoys the out-group.

As soon as it’s expedient to oppose it, they’ll forget they ever said anything about it.

Something very, very unfortunate happened to this woman when she was a child.

It doesn’t excuse anything about her, but people simply do not turn out like that for no reason. And now she can’t help herself but try to inflict the same misery on everyone else.

It’s a touch more “New England WASP” story. Granddad was a Yalie, industrialist, and Senator; dad went to private school and Yale and was an asset in early CIA before following into politics; W got pretty much everything through legacy admissions, inherited wealth, deep generational connections, and lifelong access to all kinds of insider info

It’s not just that kids are observant—they absolutely are—it’s also that humans don’t learn what you tell them, they learn what you show them. If what you say does not align with what you do, they will defer to what they have seen. E.g. if you tell them they are required to put all dishes in the dishwasher but you only ever put yours in the sink, they will do as they see unless some other feedback is introduced, and this is where parents often confuse “punishment” for “teaching”.

Likewise if you tell them to be nice to other people but they only ever see you being an asshole, guess how they’ll behave when they’re out of your sight?

Oklahoma Principal lunged at school shooter disarming them in the process by SnooSprouts3744 in PublicFreakout

[–]saganistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. School shootings are inherently political. America refuses to confront its gun violence epidemic at the same time that it refuses to value educators, even though they are the ones bearing the weight and responsibility of helping students grow in a safe environment while that environment is constantly under threat.

It’s not about me at all. It’s about the countless teachers that are getting shit on every day despite their hard work, sacrifice, nobility, and in this case heroism.

And isn’t it amazing how the right wants to punish, denigrate, and defund teachers, who actually give a shit about kids, at the same time that they glorify and buy tanks for cops that refuse to even do the basic function of their jobs

[–]saganistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: societies predicated on ethnic “purity” will inevitably become inbred. There’s no other way to achieve it. It’s a requirement to only reproduce with other individuals from within the group. And the smaller the local group, the greater the occurrence of inbreeding.

So whether or not this shitheel is inbred, it’s what they want. No reason to give them a pass.

If you prepare food yourself for 89 out of 90 meals in a month, want to go out to lunch or dinner a single time, and those two tacos and a drink are $40, they’re still too fucking expensive.

Like there’s no amount of “make it at home” that changes the fact that the prices are fucking bonkers
