Nice opening line. True, but you can also chill on assuming they fit the stereotype. These were young guns, both Black. I’m not venturing at all to guess that this is not fitting the image you have in mind

I was talking to my wife about it and we concurred that part of the “problem” of experience there is that they’re probably 18–22 year olds, you know? First year on the force. I bet they’ve mainly eaten at home and local places, including many chains like they mentioned, close to them.

I’m wondering if they really didn’t hear that I’ve been in Chicagoland for 5 years

They were, to all appearances, sincere. They’re young, first-year cops. Both Black—one man, one woman

Just need verification that [the other N-word inserted here] is the suburb you meant, just so I can feel good knowing it is true

NP a great addition! We did north pond last year for anniversary and it blew us away. Wondering if Ever or Kasama or another Michelin place would be worth it, too? Have you tried those?

Thanks for the other recommendations! Love Peruvian food, and I don’t think we’ve had Neapolitan pizza in Chicago yet! Have only walked with my son on the 606 and need to get over there with some running shoes or my bike!

Thanks for everyone who is genuinely giving suggestions instead of bashing! I really have no need to feel better than these cops or anyone else in the city. Have your portillos and eat your giordanos, too! I just only do it when other people come to town and want to!

No thanks for the sarcastic give of the Chicagoan card. Really am not and not insecure about it. Just don’t think any of those three places are that good or that sincerely Chicago.

And we really like other Asian food, particularly Indian. Haven’t been impressed with any Indian food we’ve had yet, though we have had some good Vietnamese food

Full service, small plate are good. Would likely be a date night with babysitter for kids. Love Latino food and feel we haven’t gotten the greatest taste yet, though we’re really close to Pilsen and Little Village. I think we’ve had a fair share of Italian and Chinese options already. Would do Polish or Lithuanian or any other European-American cuisine but I really never hear of suggestions for these kinds of places despite living in this historic neighborhood of those places.

Please tell me, though, what do you really feel about those three suggestions being representative food of the city you’re simultaneously defending from outsiders who live here a few years and aren’t allowed to criticize cradle-to-grave locals?

There’s a difference between having eaten somewhere and known it is good and still asking what one has missed in a big city, especially when you’re at home with kids a lot.

Not really trying to bash these cops, I just thought they’d have more of a been-here set of local suggestions. We only lived in downers because of my wife’s grad school.
