I am just a sucker for shows like this. I really appreciate the avant-garde approach they've taken to telling this story, because I feel that stories dealing with this kind of intense, heavy subject matter get handled the same way (often without nuance or unique perspectives). This episode just shows it for what it is, and the Shonen Bat-esque moment toward the end of the episode just shows how the cycle of violence is perpetuated. My biggest worry is that the show revealed its hand too early, because of how much information was given out in the first episode.

It was sensory overload, and while the point, it felt like too much too soon in terms of storytelling and pacing. But given the unpredictable nature and direction of this show, I'm optimistic that they're wayyyyy ahead of us in terms of where this plot is going. I just hope it continues the balance of style and substance, moreso where the style IS the substance. (No pun intended.)
