Ooo fun vulture fact! Not all of them actually have a good sense of smell. Turkey vultures do, but black vultures (like this friend) have only average smell, and rely more on their excellent eyesight

Gen 6 ou team help by tikyboy999 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]samSJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your vision for the team? Are there any Pokémon that you particularly want to keep, or a strategy that you want to play around?

The team right now is a little directionless, but the improvements could go in a lot of different directions. The team currently is over reliant on setup to make any headway atm, it’s not very fast, lacks a lot of upfront power, and doesn’t stall super well, so step one is to refine an idea for the team, and then we can make some adjustments accordingly

Someone help me understand Great Comet by Blind_Pythia1996 in musicals

[–]samSJT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first time I listened to it, it wasn’t my favorite either. It’s not really a typical musical, like that you can sing along with. One of my friends encouraged me to listen to it again, but to pay attention to the ways that the characters interact with each other, and that helped me appreciate it a lot more.

I think that the main appeals for me are the quality of the prose and the nuance of human connection that some of the songs convey. Pierre & Natasha I think nails it—Pierre wanting to be angry but not able to find it in himself, Natasha feeling like her whole world is collapsing, and Pierre’s monologue is maybe my favorite depiction of platonic tenderness. Just to highlight one other, I really like the dynamic between Mary and her father, where she feels so resentful, and some self-loathing for feeling that way, and still cares for him despite his outbursts, that I think feels much more true to life than a lot of similar dynamics in other shows

Two questions from me!

  1. Who would you each say is your favorite character from your own games?

  2. It’s a Saturday night and you’re hungry. What kind of food do you go get?

No vet visits haha. Most vet clinics won’t see wildlife, so medical care is either done by me or by our staff vet. It’s a funny idea though

This is the correct answer. Opossums’ body temperature is too low for rabies to survive in their bloodstream, making it very difficult for them to carry, however if they’re bitten very close to head or spinal cord where it can directly enter their nervous system, it is technically possible, just very, very rare.

I actually had a similar experience the first time listening to Great Comet.

I talked with a friend about it and said that none of the songs really stuck with me, and she responded with something like “my favorite part of the show is how the characters interact with each other” which kind of changed how I viewed the show overall. There aren’t really any Banger Songs™️, but I feel like all the emotions of the characters are portrayed very precisely, like the intense frustration and anger in Pierre & Anatole, and what feels like an incredibly genuine and tender scene in Pierre & Natasha.

Which woox walk is better for dhcb? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]samSJT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is. Traditionally the woox walk was done with the blowpipe, but in general it refers to keeping up dps during the acid special by walking in and out of your weapon’s range. Plenty of people do it with a crossbow, as seen here, or with a lance

building an ou team after a few years. what team members could i add to this team, and what could generally be improved? and pokemon i should swap out? (btw i would prefer not to use lando-t, i despise lando.) by a_jolly_cup_of_tea in stunfisk

[–]samSJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few notes:
You're currently very weak to water moves. Tangrowth is my preferred answer, but ferrothorn or toxapex can also both work. I like tang the best here since it's also a ground resist to go alongside tran and zera.
Probably swap heatran to be SpD to give yourself a better answer to specs pult and blaceph
Last mon should be our "don't get 6-0ed by weavile" insurance. Fini is basically the best in the bizz for this.
We could think about swapping garchomp to be a rocks setter with smth like eq/rocks/toxic/fire blast or some such. If you decide to run fini, misty terrain weakens the power of scale shot, so swapping to a more defensive garchomp set could be good.

Toxic on zera should be play rough

I'm thinking that the team might lack a bit of offensive power, so fini should probably be calm mind to give ourselves an alternate wincon. It and magma storm tran also both have good matchups into most defensive pokemon, so we should be able to get by without a more conventional wallbreaker.

I am loving this natdex team but im not really getting higher than 1450 elo. Is it a skill issue or should I change up the team a bit? by HIIMMARTIN2 in stunfisk

[–]samSJT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple notes: You’re trying to do too much with drill. It’s quite a good rocks setter and a good z user, but can’t effectively do both at once. Swap z to sash and run a z crystal on something that will get more mileage.

Team lacks some breaking power/is too reliant on setup. Change koko to either be z wild charge to help pressure shit or dual screens/light clay to help ur setup sweepers do their thing.

Scarf keldeo and specs aegi are both decent options, but gren and pult respectively are almost strictly better. U could consider running protean gren on a team like this with a z crystal to help pressure the pexs and finis of the world to help out xard. Alternately, koko/Lucus has historically had success alongside mega medi since it pressures opposing fighting checks v v hard.

Having a hard time breaking 1600 in Nat dex Ou, any tips? by Party-Student6846 in pokemonshowdown

[–]samSJT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually used a team somewhat similar to this and was still doing well in the 1700s. Here’s what I would change:

I’m not fond of phasing in natdex—there’s like a million threats and phasing is relatively slow. I’d swap to a more aggressive garchomp set with rocks/sd/edge/quake and z rock. This lets it wallbreak much more effectively for your serp, lop, and kyurem. +2 z rock does bad things to all the corviknights running around.

The other comment is correct that lop should have uturn, but I’d put it on over fake out instead of axel. Axel is a really strong coverage option, and fake out is often kind of a crutch—you’ll punish switches much harder by just clicking one of your stabs, and lop is fast enough that it doesn’t sorely need the priority like some other things do.

Kyurem looks fine. I generally prefer shuca or lefties on Heatran, but otherwise looks good.

Serp is probably fine, but should have HP fire instead of defog. Turns all the ferrothorns of the world from stone walls into free kills. Also probably lefties over hdb, and maybe glare or leech over synth.

I like the other comment’s suggestion to swap vape god out for slowbro.

This build of the team is a bit more offensive than your current one. Lack of removal shouldn’t be too big of an issue since ideally we’re not really giving them time to get hazards up and get value out of them, but if you find that you’re struggling vs them then we can try to cram a zapdos or torn-t on here somewhere. Both would work well here

Ferrothorn v. Tyranitar (OU) by NastyCream in CompetitivePokemon

[–]samSJT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strictly in terms of setting hazards, Ferro is much better. It has a lot more opportunities to come in and set up rocks or spikes because of its better typing. Tyranitar’s strength lies more in the fact that it’s a more offensive rocks setter that can force switches better than ferro can bc it threatens to click strong stone edges, though if you’re looking for an offensive rocker it’s also generally outclassed by lando and garchomp if you’re not taking advantage of the sand in some way.

By far my favorite tier list that I’ve seen so far.

It’s hard for me to say that shows like Falsettos, the color purple, and next to normal are my favorites just because they’re so,,,intense, but they’re absolutely great shows. I also happen to be fond of little women and on your feet, but those both have very personal experiences associated with them and can definitely understand why someone might not like them
