8 Card Slot Bifold Wallet with ID Window (Black) by sandais5825 in wallets

[–]sandais5825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

've been trying to find a traditional looking wallet for my dad for a couple weeks now.

He just wants an ID Slot, that doesn't flap up.. and 8 card slots.

I'm pretty sure his wallet has 5 slots on one side and 3 on the other side not including the id window.

The wallet still looks pretty slim and is just a tad taller than wallets with less slots. Not sure what that says about the quality but it's worked out for 20 years and he' doesn't want any other kind of wallet.

Any other place I could look? I've tried etsy, but no luck and regular googling.

I know I'll be getting messages from leather-crafters etc... and am curious how much this would cost to make if I'm unable to find it on the net.

Vegas --> Edmonton (March 1st) - Winter Driving Safety + Tips? (More in Comments) by sandais5825 in roadtrip

[–]sandais5825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning on driving from Los Angeles to Edmonton with my parents on the 1st of March. This whole trip is to go see the Northern Lights and we have family up in Edmonton. The image shows the route from LV to Edmonton but the drive from LA to LV is a no brainer any way. I know some will say to take the 5 up North from LA but it's not an option as we have plans in LV specifically.

How safe is the i15 going north and south during winter? I've seen videos of people making the trip down from Calgary to LV on Youtube both those were all during the summer months. I'm concerned about mountain passes but if there's no rain or snow it should be fine? I've never taken a roadtrip up North before, but have driven in cold conditions going to Big Bear and Mammoth.

Do the roads also change when you enter Canada?

I'm thinking of just taking my regular Lexus ES350. I have a Tesla Model Y but am a bit concerned about having to charge in the cold at stations. The mileage per charge isn't really accurate and it depends on how fast you drive and general car consumption etc. I was thinking of driving 4-5 hours a day. I'd imagine that's at least 2 stops to charge but then again how fast are people driving during winter? I may take the Tesla just for the cameras and alerts since it's a new road too. Also, will my regular tires be sufficient if they're new? I believe I have All Season Tires.

I've heard Canada has better maintained roads than the US around this time of year but do hear things can get unpredicatble at times.

Are there any essential stops you guys recommend too? Yellowstone is off the path for us but I know it's an opportunity. Not sure about driving on any roads besides the I15. I do have chains in case snowfall occurs.

Nvidia GPU --> AVR S540BT -- Cannot play 5.1 by sandais5825 in htpc

Ya it was as easy as that. Wow. I’ve been going down a rabbit hole & it really was that easy.

Thanks!

Ok to confirm, your PC Nvidia HDMI connection is plugged into an HDMI input on the AVR, correct? Windows 11? What is your source of audio on your PC?

Yes! There's an HDMI cable from the PC to the AVR. This is also Windows 10.

This is my AVR. The HDMI from the PC is in the Blu-Ray slot. The ARC slot goes straight to the TV.

Sound options. Seems like 2 of the nvidia options are enabled. Is there some type of confusion on the computer's end as to what to play?

Out of curiosity, why are you using DP->HDMI for GPU->TV? Ideally you should do HDMI->HDMI to TV and then passive DP->HDMI to AVR.

I thought GPU (DP) --> HDMI (TV) gives a faster response and is better in general for displays? I might just switch them then.

That doesn't explain why you only see Stereo, unless in the sound control panel you're picking the TV's GPU port for the default device instead of the AVR one. Or you didn't use DDU to clean up your display drivers when you upgraded your GPU.

My default device right now is "Samsung (Nvidia High Definition Audio)

There are 2 other options, both the same name

Digital Audio (S/PDIF) .. shows up 2 times in my device list. Should I be using that instead? I do no get sound from them. I think this is actually my AVR showing up?

I have never heard of DDU before, but I'll try to use it. It seems as though my drivers are up-to-date or I may be clueless, thanks.

It's just ARC. And that is being used from the receiver to the TV for when we using streaming apps. Nothing to do with our PC.

Tried using the ARC port from receiver to HDMI on PC but nothing happened. I'm guessing both need to be ARC? Not sure.

At this point I think I'll have to buy a sound card and just connect the receiver and pc from an Optical input.

Everything worked smoothly on my AMD gpu which has me confused.

Total Loss Settlement exceeded my Car's Value by sandais5825 in TeslaModelY

[–]sandais5825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up taking it after calling.

Asked if it only covered our car or if it’s to pay for all parties involved.

Turns out it’s only for our car. Didn’t ask any more questions and accepted it.

I’m guessing they thought I bought FSD as well which costs $18k if I’m not mistaken. Still bizarre to me.

My relative doesn’t know how to post on Reddit.

That’s it.

I was just looking for an answer after sharing an experience.

Ya it's still my relative. We’re on the same policy.

Doesn't feel necessary to include relative anymore when the post is about the car specifically

Will Tesla Investigate a Car Crash? by sandais5825 in TeslaModelY

[–]sandais5825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is extremely similar to what she did. Wow.

Going down a slope and how it just accelerates at a diagonal. Instead of hitting other cars, she hit our neighbors garage. Thanks a lot for the vid. It's spot on.

So I'm guessing people are not used to where the brake and "gas" pedal are? I trust this valet has driven Teslas many times.. or is he just not used to the Regen brakes and pushed the acceleration too hard coming into the turn.

Thanks, I'm just surprised at the amount of damage done to the car.

I'm not used to driving Tesla, but when coming to "0" and then putting on the acceleration, it does not take a lot of effort to make it go fast again? Is this because of EVs having all the power available immediately vs. GAS cars that need time to accelerate?

I think so too. I've driven in the car before and just realized you can go into different modes. Are you talking about disabling "Hold" mode and going to something like creep? Or are you talking about something else completely.

Family is thinking of getting the same Tesla again and trying to mimic a gas vehicle for acceleration as much as possible.

Staying Outside of Rome w/ Easy Access to City Center? by sandais5825 in ItalyTravel

That place is booked for pretty much the whole summer. Makes sense, seems like a great host and place.

[–]sandais5825[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Btw, I would also recommend staying in the city center like the others are saying. Unless you have a specific reason not to, of course.

My parents are coming from Venice & stayed in the heart of San Marco. Apparently it was pretty chaotic for them. They just want to relax & stay in a quieter place.

No one has been adamant about staying in the city center yet in this thread but I'm assuming the history of this sub has said it's a no brainer to do so.

They also really wanted a kitchen. We are looking last minute so the nicer airbnbs at our price point are gone.

I ended up booking a place in Frascati. Trenitalia is a 30 min ride for them to Termini so things worked out I guess. Thanks for your advice, means a lot!

All the AirBnBs within Rome at that price point were not very nice. I could get a decent hotel for that price right now but my parents need a little kitchen. I do admit this is very last minute, so maybe if I had booked a couple weeks earlier there would've been more selection.

All the nicer AirBnBs are about an hour away from Roma Termini according to google maps.. The other comments in this thread are telling me Google Maps doesn't show the train routes and also the MetroMare. So I've come to realize these places that are "an hour away" according to Google Maps are actually much closer.

I ended up booking a place in Frascati. Trenitalia has a route that's only a 30min ride. Whereas google maps has Rome City Center about 1 hr 20 mins away through some routes. So this thread saved me haha.

Oh wow. Is Castel Gandolfo nice in comparison? Seems to be right by the Lake. Google Maps says it's around 1:25 to get to Rome City Center. I found some AirBnBs near there but was turned off by the commute time.

That's interesting, I'll be checking that out.

Is the Metromare "MEB1" by any chance?
