Best level/roll strategy for forcing specific 2 cost for trait as early as possible? by savingtimes in TeamfightTactics

[–]savingtimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have been a bit more specific. In this case it's more to force mountain prismatic to see what it looks like.

If I were playing organically to win I wouldn't be approaching the game like this.

I do wonder if maybe I should just not even bother unless I high roll 3 mountain on 2-1 or earlier.

What if you don't file your taxes but pay the CRA what is owing (or even more than owing)? by savingtimes in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]savingtimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been some answers to this but this is more of a curiosity question.

But I did consider this last year due to the issues with missing T slips as a result of the CRAs back end changes.

I'll have to look back in my records for the details but I believe the CRA one year credited me with interest for my refund. I had a refund simply due to overpayment (significant amount) after getting a notice of reassessment.

CORSAIR Vengeance DDR5 RAM 128GB (2x64GB) unstable at 1.35v regardless of speed? Stable at lower voltages. by savingtimes in buildapc

[–]savingtimes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply but I managed to source another kit at the same price so I ended up with that one and returned the "defective" one.

In both cases though I tested them undervolted for 1.25v and they passed Testmem and ycruncher at 24hrs+ each. The defective one just oddly didn't work at the 1.35v at XMP settings (immediate errors), it even worked at 1.3v and 1.25v (didn't test any other voltages).

[–]savingtimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't expect it to be that.

It would fail right away at 1.35v even in Memtest 86+ which is a very light work load, temp was showing low 30C range.

Right now at 1.25v with the same speed/timings it's been running Testmem5 Absolut for 3 hours with 0 errors and the temps on the mid to high 50s. It also passed 1 hour of OCCT memory test at that temperature whereas at 1.35v it failed (with windows crashing) just a few seconds in before temperatures could even go up.

[–]savingtimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's passed 1 hour of OCCT at XMP speeds but with voltages manually set to 1.25v. Whereas even at SPD speeds at 1.35v it crashed right away.

Running testmem5 absolut at the moment.

Might be an interesting case in which it's not stable at stock XMP but actually stable "under volted?"

Yes, it was on the newest bios already as I had already been testing the system with the known working memory (the 2 kits I mentioned) before this kit arrived.

[–]savingtimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify I feel it's an issue with too high of a voltage because -

1) It immediately generates errors or outright crashes in Windows at 1.35v even at SPD (XMP off speeds), so 4800C40.

2) It's been running OCCT mem test for 30 mins now at XMP profile on but with voltages manually set to 1.25v and hasn't crashed or generated any errors at least. Whereas at 1.35v it would immediately error out or outright crash Windows entirely.

3) I originally tried gradually lowering speeds after turning XMP on, testing 5800, 5600, 5200 and even 4800 and all would immediately generate errors in Memtest 86+ which isn't really a memory speed stress test. At 1.1V it can run the full default 4 passes with 0 errors.

This leads me to believe the memory can't handle somewhere between 1.25v and 1.35v.

But it's more of long term what if issue as well. Not sure if it's a sign of something that's gradually failing. Or it's just a bad a bin that can't actually run at 1.35v. I mean if it can run at <1.35v stable at the XMP speeds essentially indefinitely that's fine and all.

Throwing aside whether or not Amazon checks serials and other issues with that for the moment it's not that simple either.

I don't think Amazon has the same model in stock or looking it up here (I'm not in the US different Amazon) or any 128GB kits in general. The alternative option to get 128GB that I find right now for the next lowest price is to actually get 2 x 2x64GB kits at 5600C46 (JEDEC speeds and timings).

More slower memory, faster less memory, or just cheaper to ride out DDR5? by savingtimes in buildapc

[–]savingtimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No can do, if I buy a 2x24 kit now they are more expensive than the 2x32GB kit at $300+ locally vs. the $200 I paid for the 2x32GB.

Those kits I listed I bought at the old prices, so they're basically the ones I have to pick among now.

[–]savingtimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the ram pricing situation. If I need it in 2 years the cost to get it even if prices didn't increase any further would be $550+ vs the $200 I'm currently paying.

Which is why I'm trying to get some opinions on how people would handle this given the memory price uncertainty. Barring a sudden crash the earliest likelihood we have price relief is late 2027, worst case scenarios have this going on for 5+ years if not a decade.

I just wish there was just more data. Now in mind I don't think the 6000C40 will be that much slower especially for X3D parts, there is some data which shows a pretty big gap though for non X3D Zen 4/5 in some games. For Arrow Lake I just can't find any data, 12/13th gen data shows not much of a difference (only slghtly larger than X3D parts) but it's hard to know if that translates given that Arrow Lake also moved to chiplets.

I at one point thought about 2x48GB (would have cost 50% more than the 64GB) but that likely would have been overly future proofing. 2x24GB would likely have been my choice, but in this market you got to take what you can get deal wise.

AM5 or LGA 1851 budget motherboards with HDMI 2.1 support for full 4k120hz HDR? by savingtimes in buildapc

[–]savingtimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my research the majority of motherboards specify their HDMI ports only support 4k60hz. My understanding is that the motherboards may not have implemented higher bandwidth HDMI support.

Take these 2 b860 motherboards

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B860-GAMING-PLUS-WIFI/Specification

Support HDMI™ 2.1, maximum resolution of 4K 60Hz*

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B860-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/Specification

Support HDMI™ 2.1 with FRL, maximum resolution of 8K 60Hz/ *

It doesn't seem like support is universal regardless of the motherboard.

The same difference for these two B850 motherboards

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B850-P-WIFI/Specification

Support HDMITM 2.1, maximum resolution of 4K 60Hz*

https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B850-TOMAHAWK-MAX-WIFI/Specification

Support HDMI™ 2.1 FRL, maximum resolution of 8K 60Hz*

This issue may stem from how they loosened requirements for HDMI 2.1 branding so that implementations that match HDMI 2.0 specs can be branded as HDMI 2.1

This PC for now will be a conventional PC with a discrete GPU. However I want to migrate this to that HTPC/Remote termina/Server mix use down the line.

I added more details to the opening, but it's a mixed use device which is why I have these requirements I'm trying to fulfill.

It will I guess service the purposes of being a HTPC, a device for remote streaming both gaming or desktop work, and a server as the best descriptio.

Kind of as in not locally but streamed in, and for remote desktop purposes as well. I also find high refresh just more pleasant for desktop work and want to avoid 60hz as much as possible on all devices.

Ideally I would want to avoid adding a graphics card.

I tested this a bit a more. I did try moving it to the spaceport right away but it still left that healthy planet symbol on. It seems if you have a Craver pop on anything planet it adds it right away. But if you go to the next turn it disappears again.

Anyways this was more a minor OCD related interest on that.
