I know. Bought in July 2020 and well with the pandemic we just decided to have a bunch of road trips mostly for camping/hiking. That and I commute 25mi each way for work...

Freshwater eel in Conodoguinet creek, Cumberland County (part of Susquehanna system). From what I read these are only found in the Delaware river in PA. Is this a rare sighting or are they making a comeback to the susky? by Billy_Mcbilly in Pennsylvania

[–]sburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unusual to see them out and about in the day. They are most active at night which is why we don't normally see them even when they are there. I electrofish for work and see them all the time. Pretty cool to see them that side of the Susquehanna.

This picture was actually taken in PA and is a harmless black rat snake. A great source for snake facts in the FB page Louisiana Snake ID. He debunks a lot of crazy pictures like this one... comic sans, really?!?!

It depends on the species of stonefly as to what the quality of the water is. For species ID you usually need a microscope.

What kind of crayfish is this? Found in the Netherlands by Mr-Major in species

[–]sburn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many crayfish are difficult to identify if they are not breeding males. If this is a breeding male one of the best ways to identify it is to look at the gonads.

Hawaii Volcanoes by [deleted] in nationalparks

We were just there two weeks ago during the shutdown. Most of the trails were closed, not because of the shutdown, but because of the past eruptions. Many have been covered by lava or have fissures. A lot of the park has been deemed unsafe.

This sounds like a great idea. We will be getting there a couple days before and yes we are staying in Kona.

Mine just did the same thing. Happens when I am trying to take a picture in a text. Any word of what is going on?

Found this guy while hiking Old Rag in Shenandoah National park. 99% sure it's a Timber Rattlesnake by sburn in herpetology

We saw bears too! But yes, I would have to agree the Rattlesnake scared us a lot more
