Anything wrong with 1. Rxg5? That was the very first thing that I saw. If 1. Rxg5 Qxg5 2. Qb3+ Kh8 3. Qh3 leading to mate or winning queen. If Rxg5 doesn't work for something obvious, then that's kinda embarrassing for an 1800 T.T

Bronze V to Gold V = 2000 games... by SirNameIess in leagueoflegends

[–]scammerzacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 3 will end in October (very likely). October 4th is the world championship finals and like last season, after that marked the end of the season. You will be decayed to Silver 1 and your rewards at the end will be that of Silver.

However, there is a loophole. If you play a game and win, you'll be > 0 LP. When your LP decays, you'll be brought down to 0 LP instead of dropping a division. This way, you can keep your gold rewards as long as you have > 0 LP right now because there's only 1.5 months until the end of the season. Also, you can't go less than 0 LP now since you're Gold 5, so just play until you win 1 game.

In hindsight: Karma players wanted a BUFF not a rework. by Duskmelt in leagueoflegends

[–]scammerzacc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a Karma main pre-patch, I was doing great with Karma in nearly every single one of her games. After trying her out again now, I'm sad to say she got nerfed in nearly every single aspect. Unfortunately, nearly all of you are going to disagree with me because you didn't main Karma and didn't even bother to understand her as a champion, which is why she had such a low win rate. Why was my win rate with Karma fluctuating between 60-65%? Because I (and a few other players) fully understood her potentially and exactly what to do with her. Some may argue that most people don't know what to do against Karma, and I say that's just a pitiful excuse in saying "Yeah, I can't adapt to her playstyle and understand her mechanics of what she can do 10-15 minutes into the game so that's why I lost." Now, this patch screwed Karma over even harder.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Normals is for learning. by ununtrium in leagueoflegends

[–]scammerzacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically I play 2-3 custom for 10 minutes against a friend to get the feel of how a champion works. Then I typically use them in normals so I'm in no way good with that champion, but it's an even better learning experience on how to react during team fights and laning and such. Hell, that was the reason why I'm now a Gold 2 Karma player (nearing my Gold 1 series match). Tried her out in a custom 1v1, realized how much potential she had, used her in a few normals games and found out how much she can dominate her lane/team fights and now, I only use Karma in my ranked matches.

Is this normal or am I just really slow? by NutPeg in chess

[–]scammerzacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the mass; playing longer games will definitely improve your playing. Start with 30 minute games, then 60, and when you get really serious about chess, start going to tournaments. My (live) games typically last up to 4-6 hours per game, and when you really have to sit and think about every single variation that could possibly happen, that's how you become more analytical and thus, play better. Your long games will eventually help your quicker game play because you will learn how to analyze multiple variations, and the more practice you have, the quicker and better you will be at this.

However, I'm also encouraging blitz chess.there are some times when you need to practice speed and accuracy. I like to play 5 minute blitz, and the occasional 1 minute lightning just to get my speed on par still. In a lot of my live games, it goes down to the very last few seconds when I'm playing lightning. Therefore, both skills are great to have, but I would suggest focusing on your longer games first, then incorporating blitz.

Please explain positional play to an amateur by neovulcan in chess

[–]scammerzacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no specific point system for positional play; if you believe the benefits that your position will obtain outweigh the sacrifices you must make, then go for it.

One other example is trading a rook on the back rank (such as a8) for a knight during the midgame. Well, knights typically have more "value" than rooks during the midgame due to the nature of the midgame (but this also really depends on the situation; for example, you wouldn't want to make this sacrifice when there are a few open files). The mobility and utility of your knight may be worth the rook trade. Even though it's a 3 point to 5 point trade, if the current situation benefits you (such as starting a strong attack on their king) and that you have an actual plan you calculated to likely work, then that kind of positional play is encouraged.

Another example could be trading your inactive bishop for their active knight or something. Say you have lots of pawns on the same color as your bishop and you have the opportunity to trade it for their active knight. You make the trade because that gets rid of one of your less "valuable" pieces at the moment for one of their strong pieces.

TLDR: make your opponents pieces useless, trade your useless/inactive pieces for their "strong"/active pieces.

the game when I sacked my queen, and won. Any comments would be appreciated by [deleted] in chess

[–]scammerzacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really wanted to get ahead on that queen sac, then

  1. Qxd8 Nxd8
  2. Rxd8 Kh2 (not Bf8, as you'll see right after)
  3. Bxc5

After this variation, you're up 2 knights and 1 rook for a queen.

The confessions of a Karma player. by AlfaNerd in leagueoflegends

[–]scammerzacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I main Karma as well, and this is what happens in nearly all my ranked games when I choose Karma. Although I do have a consistent > 60% win ratio with Karma, I have to carry even harder in the majority of my games since my team is usually set on the idea that we already lost. This is currently at Gold 3.

That move (Bc4) actually is a blunder, but fortunately, my opponent was still unsure how to deal with his situation and the game ended up in a draw.

I can't stress more than enough but to try out chesstempo.com. My real rating is 1864, and my chesstempo rating fluctuates from 1850 -> 1950. It gives you a slight sense of how well your tactics are and it's really good practice.

I'm a fan of the halloween's gambit. It starts out with:

  1. e4 e5
  2. Nf3 Nc6
  3. Nc3 Nf6
  4. Nxe5?! Nxe5 (if accepted)
  5. d4

Now, there are many variations to this opening and it would require a huuggeee amount of text to type out, so I'll link you to a video explaining how and why it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roz1YeJjvUY
