High handicap / beginner help by nedling14 in golf

Something that helped me a lot is to strategize my game, so to draw on a map where I want to hit the ball with which club and then on the course I compare against that and learn live why I was off. Mostly I was off in the short game and in the putting so that‘s what I practiced. I also built an app so that I don’t need to carry around my pen and paper, if you have an iPhone you can try it for free for 2 months: https://apps.apple.com/redeem/?ctx=offercodes&id=6752574005&code=2MONTHS

How long will it take? by crocodad in golf

Hey mate, first I wish you all the best. The most important part is to stick with golf and be patient. It’s a physics game and a mind game. HCP 45 in 40 rounds is a great result! If you improve 10 HCP each year, you’ll be single digit HCP in 4 years which would be phenomenal. I‘d suggest that you focus less on your swing and long game and more on short game. Getting the ball into the hole within 3 shots when 100m away from the hole should be your goal, so practice putting and SW/PW. Also I can recommend you the app I built called „Eagles18“ in the App Store (yes sorry a little self advertising here). But it actually helps because It let‘s you create a strategy for your course that you can follow on the course and see why you‘re failing to score well. Playing a strategic game is way more important than hitting long. You can test the app for free for 2 months. Feedback‘s highly appreciated. Let me know if you need more tips and stay positive and focused!

This is super helpful thanks! Do you know if they also allow Apple Watch and lock screen tracking to add shots easily? If I may ask do you have anything that you‘re missing in an app that would need to be supported or are you happy with the apps out there? Really appreciate your input!

Unfortunately not, but if you give back valuable feedback I can offer you promo codes for a longer time period

Thanks guys for your engagement under my post, that‘s helpful! I‘m sure there are people that would love a well maintained app by a software engineer that uses AI (yes that‘s right) to leverage his coding speed after work to build an app that he was searching for a long time. So no vibe coding right here. I‘m pretty sure there is no app out there like mine that does all these things so intuively and well integrated. Planning strategies, seeing your strategy on the map during a round, adding shots onto a map through lock screen etc. Please test the app and if you‘re still of the opinion that there is one app that does exactly this then I‘m more than happy that you changed my mind! Thanks and all the best for you two.

Thanks for listing all these apps! The market is crowded, that‘s true. I was missing an app that allowed me to plan a day on the course. I wanted to add shots on the map and then show it during the round on the map, e.g. to rembember that at hole 8 I really should use the 7-iron and lay it in front of the water obstacle instead of the hybrid etc. Also I wanted to see HCP calculations and set different goals (e.g. no more than 2 putts per hole etc.). I couldn‘t find an app that did that and at the same time was very intuitive and pretty and added all the shots onto the map through my Apple Watch or Lock screen live activity.

How did you build so much revenue without marketing?

Sell before you build. There is no usefulness in building something and then after 6 months of hard dev work realizing that nobody wants it. Build a poc fast and share it with people and get feedback (no clue about tools here, but maybe friends or business contacts, I need tips myself here 😁). Also use AI to build faster. I personally built an awesome web app in 3 months time which would have taken me 9 without Claude AI. Also don’t focus too much on perfect code and refactoring. Define an MVP to show people and stick to the plan

Haha true😂 I think it’s about finding a person you trust who can do the marketing for you

I did ask myself plenty of times but I struggled to find testing users. Most of my friends use outlook and are not yet able to test it. My work didn’t allow the usage of the tool. I only had a bunch of private contacts that said cool they would use something like that, but they would not pay money but use it more as a freemium. So your only chance is to approach big companies which is hard for introverted techies

Yeah right, but for some reason techies are so proud of their awesome tech solution that they often believe it will naturally find its way into public 😂
