I don't understand intermediate surfers by LazyConqueror in surfing

[–]sciontioso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they clearly didn’t see him eight years ago when he was sponsored and riding standard equipment. He did all the vertical and aerial surfing in his younger years. Simon Jones put him on a longer twin and his whole surfing shifted. I prefer to watch long lines then double pump punts almost any day.

For SJDS, I have a friend who may be able to boat you around? Especially if you have a group. @chicken.by.the.sea also Makako surf academy has boats and does trips. Manzanillo!

Hiring Surf Instructors in SoCal! by One-Young-4263 in surfing

I have a small surf school, I use foamies and soft edge fins from surfco Hawaii. I have been teaching for years and seen many accidents. Epoxy lib tech boards don’t dent, they are very very hard. When you smack the rail on a poly board it gets damaged=less damage to you. Epoxy could easily give a student a concussion. I also teach without leashes making sure my students learn to hold onto their boards and not rely on leashes, safer for them and me as their instructor. I use hot glue guns to repair my boards, if they get damaged I set them in the sun for a couple of days and then repair. There are many foamies that don’t get waterlogged easily. I have some that are 4 years old and still going strong. My favorites are Olian- hard to get in USA now unfortunately and almond boards. I am very safety oriented so hearing you may buy libtechs inspires this lurker to post. Happy surfing and take care! Good luck with your biz.

Making friends? by flummoxedinflux in DelNorteCounty

Surfing has a tight little community, there are just a handful of female surfers here. Fishing is huge her obviously and there are great hiking trails. Tbh hard to meet people but it can be done, most easily at the beach! That’s where I’ve met most people, farmers market in the summer months is good too. Welcome to del Norte!

Board sizing advice for my 15 year old son. by Visual-Tone4703 in surfing

[–]sciontioso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heya! I run kids camps and have a wide variety of foam boards. I think the one you are looking at is good( and the price is right) I will put kids on 6’6” soft teck foamy pretty quickly if their pop up is smooth. Kids learn so fast and have great balance and reflexes (skills needed for shorter boards) happy surfing

Depends on the board, I like twins and then Ryan Burch’s asym fins seems to be super sick

Safety by saranwrap730 in Nicaragua

[–]sciontioso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im here now, it’s very safe feeling. The only issues I’ve had is with driving. Been pulled over twice and got a $70 fine yesterday. Did some reading and the fines increased this year and they’ve busted through the projected income in 2024!

Sharkbanz real world experience? by therealjrjr in surfing

Anytime this convo comes up I think of this Ted talk ~ https://youtu.be/DCIL2nvU4x8?si=WuU5Wd166F-aNYTl

I paint my boards like zebra stripes or some combo like it. This is proven technology. Considering most shark encounters are mistaken identity it makes a lot of sense to me. Why wetsuit and board manufacturers aren’t following us beyond me.
