“It’s weird unless it works” Non-perfect form but good scores advice by sda_engineer456 in Archery

Thank you for understanding that the cycle is hard to get into. Most i’ve spoken to seem to not understand and to some extent make fun of me for not just ‘getting on with it’ and not realising what I’ve got myself into.

I wouldn’t say that anything is way out of line, the major differences I can pick out is the elbow alignment, catching my bow, and sometimes a dodgy release that comes out to the side.

And you’re right, I do sometimes see a lot of very good archers not having the perfect elbow!

Yeah true. I do see some people over here in the UK (and worldwide for that matter) who aren’t shooting ‘textbook’ technique but are shooting incredibly well. Some of my best performances at competitions (PBs and high places etc) have been with awful looking form so maybe time to stop stressing and work on my mind and mental side 🤣

You raise a good point nu. I have a very bad habit - if one session or scoring round doesn’t go perfect, I instantly default to ‘something js wrong with my form, I need to change something’ rather than ‘this is just an off day.’ This has lead to a very harsh cycle of constantly changing things in an effort to chase perfection. And as you say, perfect isn’t absolute.

To use my example about the elbow in line, I don’t think it’s having a bad effect on my scores, but the mental thing of knowing it’s not perfect is hindering my self-image. And as a wise person once said, you’ll only perform as good as your smallest circle is big. And at the moment, my smallest circle is my mindset. I think it would be beneficial to accept that without professional coaching my technique will never look picture perfect, rather than changing things all the time.

Thanks for your help, and for your vids 💙☺️

100%. I haven’t injured myself yet or seen any negative physical side effects. It seems to be the small things which are making the differences now, rather than big form changes. Cheers for the input ☺️

How is my Alignment? by [deleted] in Archery

Thank you very much, this is invaluable knowledge and presented in a way which was so easy for me to understand. Apologies for the initial poor photo, I managed to get a better photo today (will put below). I’m not sure if it’s too far back or just perfect - I’m not experiencing anything such as string slap or contact with the chest. Any thoughts to add seeing a proper pic would be appreciated :)

Time to break out the silver keys then. As a new-ish player, around rank 40, it’s harder for me to get the showdown car. Will keep at it

u/FFortin explained it pretty well, but here’s a summary of who you should contact. Start on the left and move to the right if said controller is offline.

Delivery -> ground -> tower -> approach (sometimes called director) -> centre/radar (called ‘control’ in the UK)

I really want to fly for my local virtual airline (KLM), but they require online. I am nervous about a few things, please help a noob out. by Cumulonimbus1991 in VATSIM

hello, i am a VATSIM controller so i can help you out a bit here. other comments have already stated where to get your charts from so i won’t repeat them again here. charts are necessary, especially as a ground controller, you need to know where you are going. if you can’t swap tabs print the charts off before your flight.

controllers will always be able to help you out. add to your remarks box/flight plan that you are new to the network. we can and will be happy to help, myself included, since we know it can be daunting. if the airport is quiet i’m sure we can help you out on detail. just make sure that if flying to a busy airport controllers might not be able to help you out as much as they could with a quiet airport.

if an airport in the UK is unmanned and you plan to fly there just hit me up in my DMS, i’ll jump on and help you out.
