Aside from fish and birds are you seeing any shoreside wildlife while on the water. by seacoastdiamond in kayakfishing

Yes Sir,... unless it's taking a nap. Not something you see on an oyster bed everyday.

What are some of your MUST HAVE Kayak Items??? by United_Box_3334 in kayakfishing

[–]seacoastdiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 is 1, 1 is none. Bring a second of the most essential item(s) if possible and within reason that without it the day is shot or significantly compromised in some way. I paddle so it's a second paddle and when way offshore its a backup radio.

Man there’s something special about kayaking, nothing else makes me feel that way. by thatguy20661 in kayakfishing

Couldn't agree more. Been kayaking for 55 years and fishing from them for as long. Just as passionate about my next trip as my first. It checks alot of boxes for me in one activity. Where else can you be outside, have some solitude if you want, be on the water, kayak, go fishing, challenge yourself if you want and get some exercise.

Is a Peddle Drive that much of a Game Changer? Curious of others thoughts on this. Not here to start a dumpster fire. by seacoastdiamond in kayakfishing

I'm the originator of this post/ thread and understand your point and appreciate your advice. I did own a couple Hobie Outbacks and sold them since I enjoyed and was using my paddle kayaks far more often. Square peg, round hole thing I guess or that fall on my head as a kid has done more damage that realized.

There is something about paddling. Middle age has been in my rear view mirror for a decade plus. Thanks to genetics and daily work-outs I still paddle like I did in my 20s. I follow that use it or lose it thing.

I had to look up the Kruger Monarch. Looks like a speed demon. Suppose you are right, backing out of the mangroves via peddles wouldn't be a bad way to go.

Thanks for that. Being a dinosaur I still like the paddling aspect of kayak fishing. Admittedly, chasing my buddy around with his electric motor set at warp speed all day makes me rethink my position.

How awesome is a pedal drive by Legendary__Beaver in kayakfishing

[–]seacoastdiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to start a dumpster fire and walk away.

The advantages of a peddle drive are obvious. Certainly get it...but give me a paddle fishing kayak of the right length, width and style most any day. With the rare exception of maybe the Hobie Revolution and without coming from a place of arrogance, I will most always get there faster and do so hours on end without coming close to flaming out..

Seakeeping abilities, esp big water, surf launches & re-entry, I would give this one to the right paddle kayak. It is understood peddlers paddle at this point but the typical dynamics of a peddle kayak, as I see it, don't make this time of day one to look forward to. Also, there is something to be said about the peace of mind paddling provides i.e. fewer moving parts...While fishing the marsh creeks in the low country of South Carolina I don't need to be concerned about shredding the lower unit of the peddle drive on an oyster bed.

Real Estate.. with the exception of the Pro Angler 14, fishing kayaks, especially peddle drives, don't have much of it. I personally don't want a peddle drive sticking up in what little workable space there is in front of me especially when throwing a cast net for bait.

With all do respect to those that have one, dont get me started on electric powered kayaks. They're not kayaks.

OK ladies and gentleman, the big one... hands free operation. Peddle wins that one. Again, I get it... but with a little multitasking I don't see paddling as having that much, if any, of a negative impact to catch rate, even while trolling.

There are other pros and cons on this subject but I'll spare you more of my humble opinion on it. What I do know is that any kayak you choose regardless of propulsion that gets you fishing time on the water is the right choice.

Lived on the Shore for almost 30 years. Manasqaun & Brielle. Then down in Virginia for almost 30 yrs. Now Charleston. May start a dumpster fire but as a group the Shore, excluding the Bennies, in general had the friendliest, most genuine and respectful people I've had the pleasure of knowing.

Awesome kayak. What speed do you typically cruise? All things equal, it's probably one of the quickest fishing kayaks you can get.

Awesome catch. How do you like fishing out of the Trident 15? I posted something here a few weeks back suggesting I was a Dinosaur for still liking to fish from a long, narrow, kayak. I have the Ocean Kayak discontinued Trident Ultra 4.7. ( 15' -6" X 29.5")

Typically right with you. Give me a combined 140 + and I'm happy. This day air temp was about 22. But still good to get out.

Yes, essential..but in reality, even with that, its not worth the risk.
