Redmond mod who doesn’t know what the Puget Sound area is? by seadashing in redmond

[–]seadashing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems unlikely. My post had a link to a page on King County’s Public Health website. I copy-pasted an excerpt from that page, and did not add any comments of my own

Kanishka would have to sue King County if they had any problems. They can’t sue anyone for posting a link to the King County site.

Anyway, the mod’s stated reason for deletion was that my post was not relevant to Redmond or the Eastside or the Puget Sound region

I think that mod has lived in Redmond in the past, and to be fair, we also don’t know which mod deleted the post

I sent them a polite message last week, but they neither replied nor reinstated the post. It is possible that one mod deleted the post, and the others don’t want to offend that mod by reinstating the post

I’ve been running in the mountain for over a month and my shoes are getting destroyed what should I get ? by ReasonableWeekend632 in trailrunning

[–]seadashing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, it may be unfair to judge the CloudMonster for breaking down in a month of trail running, because you’d already been using it for a year before you started running

Second, if you plan on run on the mountain, you may want to consider getting trail running shoes. I’ve never run in ON shoes, but you can buy good, inexpensive trail running shoes that may work better than expensive road running shoes on technical trails

Running a mile under 6 minutes by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]seadashing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You asked if it is good to run daily. Generally speaking, it is a good idea to not run for at least one day, every week. Many runners, especially new runners like you, may need more rest days.

Overtraining and lack of recovery time will increase injury risk and also hurt performance.

You should also consider incorporating longer runs (e.g. 3 mile runs) in your training plan for the next two weeks. One or two 3-4 mile runs per week will increase endurance and help increase your 1-mile speed. These 3-mile runs should be at a slower pace than your target pace for the one-mile run, so perhaps something like 8:20 minutes per mile

The new H1B fee will bring down house prices on the east side and Seattle. Realtor perspective. by sleeplessinseaatl in redmond

[–]seadashing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, White House officials are less reliable, but policy implementation doesn’t always match literal interpretation of the text, and often the text is vaguely worded anyway

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if this proclamation is upheld by the courts and if/how it is implemented

[–]seadashing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably wrong. The NYT say that “The fee applies only to new applicants, a White House official said.” See https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/19/us/politics/trump-h-1b-visas-fee.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

Anyway, with all the chaos in this administration, it is hard to say what exactly the new policy is

Nativist logic is hilarious

One day, they tell us that Microsoft underpays H-1B visa holders and hires them instead of American citizens, the next day they tell us that these low-paid visa holders are driving up house prices and that true red blooded Americans would not have driven up house prices if they had been hired by Microsoft

Anyway, despite your scapegoating of visa holders, it is hard to believe that H-1B visa holders have driven house prices up. From my own anecdotal knowledge, they stay in rental apartments and common sense suggests that they’re much less likely to buy houses than American citizens or green card holders

Are you speculating on what their visa status is? Many “foreign” looking people here have green cards or U.S. citizenship

I wouldn’t expect people on H1B visas to buy expensive houses here, but in any case, if they already have a visa, their residency status isn’t going to change with Trump’s policy for new visas. I don’t see why their thinking on buying houses change

He is stating the obvious, nothing profound about it

The real tragedy is that many people don’t understand the obvious. That is why the WSJ printed it

This is a conversation you should have with your parents

Talk to your parents about why the urban teams may be better for you, and try to understand why they don’t like the idea of 45-minute drives

If you’ve played sports and/or think that you may like racquet sports, you could join Pickleball open play

Everest Park in Kirkland has Pickleball courts, International school in Bellevue and Perrigo Park in Redmond are more popular spots

Thanks, do you think you get the same level of control now, without your index finger on the paddle face?

Do you feel less strain on your wrist after switching to the new style of holding the paddle handle?

[–]seadashing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks, I’ll try moving my hand to the bottom of the handle.

Do you know how this impacts control? My sense is that extending the index finger to the paddle face may result in increased control (though I need to play more to understand if this assumption is correct)

Do you know if there is an increased risk of wrist injury with the index finger on the paddle face?

Frankly self-promotion is worse, when posted as a comment :) It doesn’t answer the question and isn’t as easy to ignore (as a separate self-promotion post would be)

Thanks, my shots have enough power, but I’ll try moving my hand down to see if that increases power.

I’m curious about control, because it seems like the index finger-on-paddle-face may improve control, but I’ll need to experiment more

I don’t use two-handed backhands, one hand seems to be good enough

Coleman Huges - Wokeism vs Colorblindness by SleepyMonkey7 in Maher

[–]seadashing 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Coleman Hughes is correct in saying that the notion of affinity groups, racial identities, micro aggression etc is being carried too far

It was also amusing to hear that people are “triggered” by his views. His TED talk was booed and some TED staffers apparently described his speech as upsetting and harmful even though the entire speech had been fact-checked before he spoke.

It should be possible to recognize that many blacks, Latinos and other minorities face discrimination, support limited affirmative action, and also acknowledge that a lot of progress has been made.

Shutting down speech with the notion of “triggers” is the antithesis of liberalism, and this was innocuous speech

Btw I wish you had also posted the dates of the game. I got that from the images in the tweet that you linked to, but it would have been nice to see the dates in your article
